I'm perfectly well aware of its meaning. It's the negative connotations I object to.
I seriously doubt that a centuries old figure of speech will be erased from the English language because somebody somewhere finds "negative connotations" in it.

"Euro" is code for "white", just like "robot/robotic".

Funny, because when an American claims European heritage, not one European would accept them as such.In fact, they loathe it.

****** in what way? Or does it mean physical thickness?

Heck I could just google it thinking about it but I like you
Not thick as in "******" but rather thick as in "tight": Close or bound together in some way.

Whatever Gilligan. If you can't understand the English language and how it's used that's your problem not mine. I'm not obligated in anyway to cater to the "special needs" of someone who finds things objectionable in a language he clearly has only a cursery understanding of. That's like saying a German should cater to ME because my knowledge of German is severly limited. Sorry, but that hypothetical German is under NO obligation to clarify things for me just because I have no knowledge of German figures of speech and other idiomatic expressions.

It's an ironic idiom as thieves are a disparate group as liable to rat out their compatriots as they are to back them up.

Ironic it may be, but it IS entrenched in our language and if I'm not mistaken even Shakespeare has used it.

Shakespeare probably invented it. He was a language inventing bastard and a half he was.
