Comments Thread For: Moreno Edges Cermeno, Linares Decisions Lorenzo

At the Polideportivo José María Vargas in La Guaira, Venezuela, WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno (29-1-1, 10KOs) came to hostile ground to win a close twelve round split-decision over previously undefeated interim-champion Nehomar Cermeno (19-1, 11KOs). Cermeno was riding quite a streak, including two wins over Cristian Mijares and a win over Alejandro Valdez. The scores were 114-113, 115-112 for Moreno and 115-112 for Cermeno. Moreno will continue to prove my young Pernell Whitaker comparison look legit. The guy keeps going to hostile territory and winning. Cerme~o is a good fighter, Moreno will keep winning and people will have to take notice.

If he wants any shine, he's going to need to sign to an American promoter cuz he'll never get on US TV this way. No other beltholder will dare try to unify with him neither will a popular fighter moving up.

Challenge an unknown tall, fast, slick southpaw with good skills, there's not a manager dumb enough.

          Moreno fights nothing like Whitaker.

He should man up and face a certain ko machine in Japan

he's a skilled, pitty pat volume punching southpaw with great footwork and angles. sounds more like spadafora. he's not nearly as athletically gifted as pea was and doesnt have the upper-body movement that pea had.
glad to see him win though. i like his style and i absolutely hate cermeno's.

                    Moreno to "man up"?

Moreno has defended his belt several times on foreign soil against solid competition (with the exception of Patrac) and has won every time, relying on his defense, footwork, and skills. He doesn't have the power to back him up.
