    Alcine KOs Ortiz in 10

Montreal's Joachim Alcine retained his WBC International and North American Boxing Association super-welterweight titles Saturday with a technical knockout of Elio Ortiz in the 10th round.

Wanted to post about this fight because it took place in my hometown (well, across the river from it, but close enough). Unfortunately it was a small venue and try as I might I couldn't get tickets in time .

For those that don't know, Alcine is in the top 5 WBC super-welterweight ratings, is unbeaten, and it getting closet to hopefully getting his title shot.

Alcine looked great in the first round by deilvering a liver shot to Ortiz that nearly knocked him out of the match right then and there. Tough Ortiz stood back up just in time and looked impressive at times, even knocking Alcine down himself a few ruonds later, though Alcine was off-balance at the time so the shot was not as hard as it might have first appeared. The fact that Alcine bounced right back from it showed that it did little damage.

Alcine left him too vulernable at times and seemed reluctant to unleash one of the quick combinations that he's known for. Ortiz was getting hit shots in but never controlling the fight for more than a few seconds.

Eventually Alcine gave the crowd what it wanted to see. About halfway through the 10th rounds, after a bit of dancing Alcine had Ortiz on the ropes and delivered a succession of head and body shots that was so quick that you had to see it on the slo-mo replay in order to truly appreciate it. The stunned Ortiz wobbled for a bit and was then down. After the count reached 8 or 9, Ortiz shook his head and the ref ended the fight.

Alcine still has some things to work on but in such a weak division he has a good chance of making waves, provided that he is given the fights he deserves. Hopefully more people will be able to see this true contender in action soon.

Your from Quebec as I see, me too. Cause honestly nobody give a care about Alcine except quebecers. I wasn't too impress with him vs Ortiz, he cracks up under pressure. Instead of stepping is game up, he backed down and acted a little shy.

Don't make too much hope about him man!

Well, actually I'm from Ottawa, so close to Quebec, anyway. Plus I spent a number of years in Montreal when I was in University. Quebec's a great place, whereabouts are you from?

Good points about Alcine but I might chalk it more up to nervousness than a problem with his abilities. To contrast, Ngoudjo (another Quebec prospect, for those who don't know) looked imo terrible his in his last fight. Alcine was shy like you said and I think he has to work on his defence a bit (though his footwork isn't too bad) but if he improves a bit you never know.

I'm from Quebec but now I live in Montreal.

Alcine is probably gonna have a shot at world title (he deserves it) but I don't see him beating a Vargas, Mosley or Mayorga. Too much power in those guy's, if he get drop by Ortiz, imagine versus any of these power puncher.

But like you said, we never know! Personnally I'm more excited about Lucian Bute. Have you seen this guy fight? Damn!!! A machine!

Yes I posted here about Bute a while back, he is a good one for sure. I'm actually hoping one of his fights ends up over here. I at first wasn't interested in seeing Alcine but changed my mind and thought what the hell, though by that time it was too late to get tickets.

Bute is fighting again this weekend at the Arena Maurice Richard...would probably be great to see him here, it's a small venue as far as I know.

Agreed about Alcine, though the way Vargas and Mosley looked in their last fights he might have a shot against them...both are starting to show their age. Of course Alcine isn't getting any younger either.

I have the last 5 fights of Bute on cassette but I don't have the equipement to upload them on my cumputer (sorry!).

Do you know Jean Pascal? He is really young and only have three fights but what I saw from him was pretty impressive. A little Roy Jones in the making!

I've downloaded a few of fights, so no worries, but thanks all the same.

You're not the first poster here to compare Pascal to Jones. I've only seen him in his one fight in the Olympics and in highlights, but there's a lot of buzz around him and it sounds like so far he's living up to the hype.

Did you see him at Club Soda or whatever? Man, I wish there would have been that much boxing going on in Montreal when I was living there. Seems like it's replaced raving as the nighttime pasttime over there.

The boxing activity is crazy around here like you say! I have seen Pasacl once at a club soda boxerock card. His style is crazy! But he should keep is hands a little higher, a surprise may come someday.

If you want a lot of fights of young prospect from Montreal, go to lazonedeboxe.com, it's in french but you have like 60 fights and it only cost something like 5$ a month (and you can suscribe for only one month). They have all the Jean Pascal fights, a couple of Alcine and Bute and some less promising fighter like David Cadieux, Paul Mbongo, Troy Ross, Sebastien Demers and others.

Friday Lucian is fighting, I will probably have the fight on my pc so if you want it, just say it!

Yeah, I heard that Pascal had a bit of trouble last time out. This is the time to learn, I guess.

Looks like a great site. Thanks for the link. My french c'est pas mal so I think I can figure my way out over there . Good price for so many fights.

Should be another good outing from Bute this weekend, I'll have a look for the fight on-line but if I have no luck I may drop you a line. Will it be on TVA, do you know? From the looks of things there's some telethon on all weekend.

                  Thanks again!

You can catch the fight on PPV (wich is vu or indigo here in Quebec) or if you have videotron high speed on your computer, it's free (My girlfriends happen to have it YEAAAH! )

Don't worry for your french, my english is not good but I can still understand how boxingscene work.

If you speak french well enough, join the forum on lazonedeboxe.com, a couple of boxers from Quebec are regularly online and you can ask question to Yvon Michel from GYM or to the guys of interbox. A great site for the boxing local scene.
