Why should a bigger man run from a smaller man?

If Dirrell shows he has no courage, some of the Detroit fans will jeer him.
this is like saying Lennox Lewis should have just neglected his height and jab and gone hands down shot for shot in the face with Mike Tyson or Hasim Rachman. Or Wladimir should have stood in the middle of the ring and done so with Sam Peter.

If he's bigger, has more speed and footwork, why wouldn't he go in and out with his jab. He may be taller, but Arthur is more powerful. That's reason to box and not brawl. I don't get your logic of " dirrell is taller therefore he should brawl."

By the way, Dirrell gets a UD.

It's hilarious to watch Tunney tip toe around the posts that he has no legit answer for.

Just when you think no one's looking....

Tunney, tell us what's really on your mind...

"He's taller, so he should stand flat footed, and trade shots with a knock out puncher until someone goes to sleep"

"I mean, fo' realz, he's TALLER!!!"

"You can't just be all... TALLER and ****, and not be willing to trade punches.. !"

"Let's just throw all this boxing bull**** out the window.. We're talking about a man who's clearly TALLER than the other"

I think he has an opportunity to work against Abraham who fights in shorts bursts. But he certainly won't trade with Abraham, the only guy who is going to trade with Abraham in this thing is Carlos Frochos.

It's boxing suicide really but in terms of styles Dirrell significantly harms his chances by trading, whereas a guy like Froch who will probably have a very hard time breaking through Abraham's guard and landing anything big will relish the chance to swap punches, even if it is highly dangerous to do so.

I don't like Dirrell's style at all (specifically Stevens and much of the Froch 'fights', honestly I think new rules should be introduced just to judge his fights and criteria provided that state what Dirrell has to do to win a round effectively, lol.

The proviso of being hit and not getting hit in return seems a bit shallow when watching Dirrell at times.

The difference is Lewis and Wladimir BOXED by moving and slipping punches, and then countering.

Dirrell will RUN like a frightened chicken.

Any person of normal intelligence knows the difference...

I think it's fair to criticise Dirrell's running against Froch because his aim was to avoid contact for 99% of the round and then just land one or two punches to steal it. When he wasn't able to avoid contact, he spent more time holding than he did punching.

Personally, I like to see a guy try to put on a show or dominate. Dirrell tried to do the very minimum needed to do to win. I don't expect Dirrell to go toe-to-toe, I just expect for him to fight for more than 10 seconds of each round.

There is a big difference between being skillful, outboxing your opponent by controlling range and using lateral movement, and running. If people need to see a side-by-side comparison they should watch the Dirrell-Stevens/Malignaggi-N'Dou card. Malignaggi boxed with skill, Dirrell ran.

It's fine. He's not breaking the rules, he's not cheating, and if he thinks that's his best chance of victory then fair enough. But don't deny that he ran for a lot of the Froch+Stevens fights, and don't expect most people to find it entertaining because it isn't.
