In terms of defensive skills....yes, born and honed from the same lineage of style in utilizing distance, footwork, evasion, and general ringmanship.

But obviously they differ in oh so many ways (countless) but we cannot be a literalist. Figuratively I really think so.

But I would hope that Mayweather would fight more to be tested. Ali fought just about everyone in his era. Everyone and bested everyone in his prime.

I think that Muhammad Ali is still the greatest. Being a 7/8 year old kid when my father first brought me to watch THE THRILLA IN MANILA, boxing and pugilism made an inedible mark unto me that made me love boxing.

This led me to study some boxing, jeet kune do, kali/escrima/arnis and now tai chi chuan.

In my humble opinion, Mayweather have the technical skills to be the greatest and I already consider him the GREATEST DEFENSIVE TACTICIAN of all time.

      Yes, of all time.

But he is also untested. I would love for him to fight Pacquiao and see how he fair against a volume puncher, southpaw, strong stamina, strong willed and charismatic fighter from the Philippines.

Technically speaking...(just on paper) I would say he can beat Pacquiao. But, but, but....Pacquiao have all the tools to offset his defensive style also.

Pacquiao is no slouch obviously. I really think that if both fight with their very best on the line, it would be the greatest match up since ALI vs FRAZIER or ALI vs FOREMAN.

It can also be another SUGAR RAY vs DURAN all over again also with SUGAR RAY as MAYWEATHER or DURAN as PACQUIAO.

Similar in their styles and demeanor.

It's criminal to even compare Floyd to The Greatest!!!!!! Floyd is a mere pebble in the mountain that is The Great Muhammad Ali. Boxers can imitate Ali but never replicate who he was!!!

I think Floyd tries to emulate him in many ways in terms of trash talk and arrogance but..

Ali was funny, smart, charismatic and wasnt all about money. When he trashed talk he did it with a twinkle in his eyes and tongue in cheek a lot of times.

That's something floyd has never been smart enough to figure out, when floyd trash talk he does it with all seriously, no charisma.

closest thing to Ali in terms of personality is Prince Naseem, he was funny, quick witted and had that twinkle in his eye and had the same personification of pure arrogance with guile.
This is the big difference and Ali was not vulgar in his trashtalking.

I don't even know why Manny even put Floyd's Jr name in his lawsuit, Floyd Sr is the one who was talking all the ****s.
If you really want to know why Mayweather Jr. was named in the court action, it was because he "embraced his father's opinions", which, in the laws of libel and slander are a very definite No-No.............

Only a conviction that the accusations were true would have caused him to repeat them as if they WERE true.

Or maybe a more true answer might be that he was feeling malicious..........?

Whichever it was, the culpability is the same.

Nothing alike, Ali fought everyone and wasnt scared of any man and didnt make up ridiculous excuses, he had carisma and was funny... he was loved by all.

Lil Floydette just talks major trash, just like his daddy and unky.
