Is Floyd Mayweather Jr the modern day Muhammad Ali?

With success and personality comes comparisons to predecessors and pioneers. Floyd Mayweather Jr is arguably one of the top names in boxing and the comparisons have been coming since he became a pro. But, the latest comparison has really caught my attention and the wrath of many Mayweather critics. In a recent interview, Uncle Jeff Mayweather said his nephew Floyd Mayweather Jr was just like Muhammad Ali. Let's examine these comments and comparison further.
“He has picked the role of being the bad guy because he’s flashy, flamboyant and in your face with it, and speaks his mind, whether you like it or not. A lot of people don’t like that and want to see him fall, but it's no different than Ali; many people hated him too. The same type of people that liked Ali back then are the same people that like Floyd now. It is just generations later repeating itself." Jeff Mayweather
There's no reason to waste any time, let's just get straight to the point. Floyd Jr is nothing like Muhammad Ali and never will be. Here are some reasons why there's no comparison.
· Muhammad Ali never had a reputation for "ducking" fighters
· Ali transcended the sport of boxing, Mayweather Jr never will.
· Ali was loved and respected, Floyd lacks in both of these areas as well
· Various Ali's fights are considered some of the greatest fights
and feuds of all-time. As of right now, there aren't any
Mayweather fights (other than with the law) that will stand the
test of time
The Bad Guy
Jason Barbera Sacramento, CA "Is Floyd Mayweather Jr the bad guy in boxing?"
I will agree on this point, Floyd Mayweather Jr is the "bad guy" of boxing. However, I disagree with Uncle Jeff on the following "He has picked the role of being the bad guy." Floyd didn't pick the role of "bad guy" he filled this position because of his negative reputation and selfish, egotistical personality. His legal issues, constant bashing
Floyd filled this position by all the legal troubles he has gotten into outside of the ring. His selfish nature and money driven antics have made man fans despise him.
Speaks his mind
This is arguably the biggest reason many dislike Mayweather. Just look at his relentless comments on Manny Pacquiao if you need proof. The biggest problem I have with Mayweather Jr is his hypocritical, selfish, and racial comments. We live in a country where freedom of speech is pushed to the limits of human decency. Floyd and his entire family go too far in the things they say.
I understand that talking is part of hyping up a fight but Mayweather Jr goes too far, Accusing people of being on PEDs without proof is something that should be disallowed. You'd think that the filing a defamation suit would have stopped this by now. Mayweather has also made comments about foreign athletes and Mosley's divorce has also gone too far.
Conclusion
Being flamboyant is one thing, but Mayweather is a criminal, a hypocrite, and a racist. Being flashy is one thing, but Mayweather tells everyone that life is all about him and the money. Being in your face is one thing, but Mayweather discriminates and disrespects. The bottom line is this: I'm fully aware of what it takes to be the bad guy as pro-wrestling wrote the book on this. But, Mayweather goes beyond the role of the bad guy, he goes to the point of criminally abusing people both physically and verbally.
