I wouldn't say he is respectful since he said he could beat SRR. I just think he is realistic. Here is the quote.

“Sugar Ray Robinson at 147 pounds was close to perfect,” Hopkins posits. “But at middleweight, he was beatable. I would have fought Ray Robinson in close and not given him room to do his thing. He’d make me pay a physical price. But at middleweight, I think I’d wear him down and win. Me and Marvin Hagler would have been a war. We’d both be in the hospital afterward with straws in our mouth. We’d destroy each other. I wouldn’t run from Marvin. My game-plan would be, rough him up, box, rough him up, box. You wouldn’t use judges for that fight. You’d go by the doctors’ reports. Whichever one of us is damaged less gets the win. Carlos Monzon? I could lose that fight. Monzon was tall, rangy, did everything right. I see myself losing that fight more than winning it. I ain’t saying I’m number one, but I’m one of the best middleweights of all time. My legacy is what it is. If you want to be great, then beat Bernard Hopkins.”

Hopkins last fight will be Roy Jones, IMO.

Hopkins started his career at Cruiser, dropped down to middleweight and then fought smaller fighters, and even though I rate Hopkins higher than Calzaghe atleast Calzaghe fought undefeated prime fighters his own size like Lacy and Kessler (Good wins at that time) Hopkins at Middleweight's best win is Glen Johnson and Felix Trinidad.

I give Hopkins credit for the Johnson, Tarver, Prime Jones Jr, Taylor and Calzaghe fights. He also faced fighters his size but the fact is he is 2-4 in those fights.

Marvin Hagler fought all up and coming fighters, Hopkins has yet to face Dawson who has been calling him out for time. Hagler fought a BEAST in John Mugabi, avenged two of his early losses by knockout, yes he beat Roberto Duran and Thomas Hearns who were smaller but are you seriously telling me Oscar and Tito wins were better? Hearns and Duran are rated in most Top 15-20 ATG lists, Oscar and Tito barely make Top 40-50 ATG lists...Hearns did better after he lost to Hagler and Tito was getting outboxed by Winky Wright. btw I rate Hagler in the top 25 but I rate Duran higher...how do you rate Hagler?
Hopkins has fought EVERYBODY who was in his way everybody during his reign, at both middleweight at light heavyweight. He is 45 now and doesn't give a **** about titles anymore, give it a rest.

I think monzon is too slow for Hopkins. No one who ws slower than Hopkins has ever come close to beating him.

Thats a good little rant from Hopkins...lol.

To be fair to what he said. Robinsons best weight wasnt 160 Pounds which hes right about. I still think Robinson beats him at 160.

I think Hagler resume is better than Hopkins but I don't think is way better for him to be so ahead of Hopkins. I can't even compare Calzaghe to Hopkins MW resume. You forgetting Echols was top dangerous fighter at the time also, Segundo Mercado solid win. His resume trumps Cal by leaps and bounds.

I rank Hagler outside the top 30 and B-hop outside the top 40.

Where do some of you guys come up with this stuff? You act like there were only a few dozen fighters in history and that anything before the 80's is irrelevant. Good God!!
in boxing seeing is believing.i dont rate guys highly who there isnt much video of and have dubious records.lets take willie pep for instance.guy fought damn near 240 fights.you cant convince me that 230 of those guys were solid opponents.bert sugar would hav us believe pep won a round witout throwin a punch.yeah ****in right.i watched that documentary of pep on espn an that was finally debunked thank god.pep would get mauled if he were fighting today.same with jack johnson or joe louis.if your gonna call somebody the best to do it,then he should be able to beat anybody from any era.

when talking of bernard hopkins,i cant see any middleweight dominating this guy in his prime.i could see him beating every great middle.not sayin that he would, but its not a strecth of the imagination.being arguably the best mw of all time should definitely get you a spot inside the top 10

Kelly Pavlik had to move up 10 pounds to fight the bigger Hopkins

Winky Wright had to move up 11 pounds to fight the bigger Hopkins

Oscar and Tito were Career Welterweights who I rank in the Top 50's for what they did at Welterweight

The guys Hopkins fought who were his size: Glen Johnson, Antonio Tarver, Joe Calzaghe, Roy Jones Jr (Prime), Jermain Taylor.

I give him credit for these fights but he is 2-4 in those fights

Which Prime HOF Fighter did Hopkins beat who was his size?

Yet some of you are ready to put him in Top 10-20 if he beats a dead corpse in RJJ and a guy hasnt done much at HW (Just won a title in a close decision)...I guess you guys have low standards set.

I'm not asking Hopkins to face Klitschko he doesn't have too, but why not face the best guy if you are going to fight in that division? Chad Dawson is an undefeated fighter in his Prime who is Hopkins size, why not fight him?

I don't think he was being disrespectful towards SRR. But, him saying Monzon would beat is not about him having respect for the past legends. Because, if that was the case he would also say that Hagler and SRR would beat him also.

But, he said at 160 he would beat SRR, Hagler would be a toss up, and Monzon would beat him.

Hopkins knows boxing and is a smart dude. He is also very realistic IMO. I think he see something in Monzon that he would not want to go up against. And, he mentioned with the tall, rangy fighter who did everything right.
