Sad Sad Hopkins

I was just watching the fight between him and Keith Holmes and man was this guy awesome. That Hopkins was one of the greatest fighters ever. Its sad that he started his career so late and that he beat solid fighters but never got the credit until he beat Tito. He was already older then and didnt capitalize on it by fighting other great fighters and now he is older. He is still the Champ and is still good but that Hopkins would kill this Hopkins just like he killed Tito.

Alot of people want to see Hopkins vs Taylor and Winky. They both have a chance to beat him and it sounds like most experts and alot of fans would pick Winky to beat him but if it was the old Hopkins then they would have no chance. He wouldve destroyed Winky. He was so much faster and rougher then. If anyone has it, they should go back and watch the fights with Holmes and Tito because that Hopkins wouldnt let Winky win a round. That jab **** wouldnt work. Hopkins would get real physical and rough him up bad

Its just sad that we had a great Champ but didnt really get to see him against other greats in his prime. I wouldve given anything to see that Hopkins-Jones fight at 168 after the Tito fight. Both were close to there primes. That wouldve been one of the greatest fights ever. I think that was more of Hopkins fault. He was to greedy on that one

it is sad, but Hopkins has nobody but himself to blame, and frankly after the $15mil+ that he got for his sparring match vs. Oscar I can't blame B-Hop for holding out for the big bux

Hopkins is great and it is rather sad that he's fought guys who most people can't remember outside of Trinidad, Jones, and De La Hoya. But hey, the fight against Taylor should be a good one. I always thought it was a shame that Jones never matched up with some of the great British middleweights that were around when Toney and Jones were in their prime. I've been watching some of the Eubank and Benn fights and either of these men would have made great match-ups for Jones, although I think he would have had a pretty easy time with Benn. Eubank may have given him trouble. At any rate the middle-weight division is pretty empty right now...hopefully the Hopkins-Taylor fight will live up to expectations. The lower weights are packed though :-)

Hopkins beat Echols twice that was pretty amazing Echols was like a little version of foreman. The only guy that might give him trouble is Winky but I see Hopkins beating him by UD, Taylor is just going to get schooled plain and simple he hasnt fought anyone as skilled, strong and slick as Hopkins.

The Hopkins that fought Keith Holmes was one of the best technicians in boxing's history. IMO, Hopkins officially fell off after he beat Trinidad.

He's been an arrogant BORE ever since... My prayers are that Jermain Taylor beats him in the fashion Terry Norris beat Sugar Ray Leonard.

I'll be rooting for Hopkins to beat Taylor and Winky should he wind up facing him. I really like Hopkins for some reason, despite the fact that his matches are usually incredibly boring. The Eastman match was hyped much the same way some people are hyping the Taylor fight, i.e. Hopkins had not faced a true middleweight lately, Eastman would be too strong for Hopkins tactics, etc....Eastman got schooled in what was a mind-numbingly boring fight...I expect the Taylor fight to be much the same.

Keith Holmes was nothing more than a caretaker champion, since when has a past-prime Keith Holmes ever been world-class? That was his last fight and he wasn't very good anyway! Apart from that, Hopkins has only beaten blown-up Welterweight's. He hasn't beaten a world-class, natural Middleweight. In his prime, Hopkins lost every round to a pre-champion Roy Jones. The truth is, the Middleweight division has been empty for 10 years now so this guy Hopkins stands alone.

Hopkins was around in the 80's and 90's but nobody had heard of him because the Middleweight division was absolutely packed back in those days with better talent than him, so packed that nobody was able to emerge as 'the best'. In the early 90's you had the likes of Nunn, McClellan, McCallum, Barkley, Graham, Kalambay, Benn, Toney, Eubank, Julian Jackson, John David Jackson, Jones Jr etc all rated above Hopkins. Many of those guys are even younger than Hopkins!

So in reality, Hopkins is just old left-overs from the 80's and 90's, a crumb. When all the others either moved up in weight or retired, Hopkins remained. There's been no talent coming up to hurt him, only blown-up Welter's coming up

Hopefully, he'll be exposed against Taylor. Although Taylor isn't all that good at all compared to the Middleweight's in the early 90's.

That's one hell of a crumb, to unify all the middleweight belts and make 20 straight defenses in the meantime, with only a couple of close fights in that streak.

Jones did not really dominate Hopkins. He pitt patted and won rounds that way. Hopkinslanded the cleaner shots in the fight. And toward the end was winning the rounds. Hopkins was more of a brawler back then and had success when he got Jones to the ropes and landed some clean shots on him. Jones won more rounds, but Hopkins landed more better punches. That is why I hate Jones when he fights somebody good he fights with them mentality that the fight is scored the way fights are in the amateures.
