Comments Thread For: Cunningham vs Ross Has Been Ordered By The IBF

BoxingScene.com had been advised that the IBF has informed the camps of Steve Cunningham (22-2, 11KOs) and Troy Ross (23-1, 16KOs) to begin immediate negotiations to make a fight for the vacant cruiserweight title. If the two camps are unable to reach a deal within thirty days, the fight will head to a purse bid. [Click Here To Read More]

This is a MUCH more interesting fight than Cunningham-Godfrey, because Godfrey is mediocre, and Troy Ross is a bona fide top 5 cruiserweight.

Yeah, I give Ross a very good chance of winning here Godfrey's loss is his gain.

Good fight. I was pretty impressed with the time I watched Troy Ross fight.

Cunningham has almost immaculate boxing skills. This is a good one.

What happened with the Godfrey fight? Last I knew, they were still trying to make it work without the Spinks fight.

God, I'm super excited for this fight!

This should be an interesting fight, much better than Cunningham-Godfrey IMO.

What happened with the Godfrey fight? I know there was a setback, but I thought they moved it to Chicago on the same date.

Godfrey and his team weren't informed that the fight was still on when it was called off the first time so they stopped training camp so he's not in good enough shape for the fight. They only found out the fight was still on when they watched FNF where they were advertising the fight.

How the **** do things like this happen?!?

I heard that Godfrey had second thoughts because he didn't train for 3 days or something... he must have really gorged or something in those three days. I don't know how you can drop out of shape in just three days, but I've never been a professional athlete, so I might just be talking out of my ass.

Apparently Godfrey's promoter never notified them that the fight had been moved and that it was still on. Weird.

3 days that close to fight could make a pretty big difference, you stop sparring so that can take some of the sharpness away, you stop running so you stop losing weight and mentally it's not really the best of things going into the fight knowing your opponent has 3 more days of crucial training over you.

Maybe the Iceman can shed some more light on this although I haven't seen him post in a while.
