He said he supported Mosley over Margarito since they were both black Americans, how is that racist? Why are most of Pacquiaos fans Fliipino and most of Marquez's fans Mexican?

First when he was fighting marquez he was complaining about why he doesnt get enough support from the black community in an interview with a hip hop magazine & how marquez & pacquiao enjoy full support of their people.
Then wit the rugged man interview he claims the philippines makes the best PEDS.
Then on joe buck live he asks the troops to support him because he's american.
Then he compares his drug crusade without any evidence against pacquiao as comparable to what Martin Luther King & Malcolm X did.
Then he makes comments about how pacquiao is not american & he should not be trusted.
Now with this face off video on hbo with shane he brings up the racial component again:
2) Does the Philippines making the PEDS have anything to do with race? Nationality is not race(Though they are intertwined depending on the situation). I can see you making a good argument for this one, but the Philippines as a country "supposedly" making the best PEDs has nothing to do with the Pinoy as a people/race.
3) There's something wrong with asking to be supported by American's(Specifically troops)? What do you think of Olympic Athletes since they are always trying to garner support? And again Nationality is not the same thing as race. If he would have said "All the African-American troops in Iraq please support me" then you'd have a case.
4) The Malcom X, Martin Luther King comment was a dumbstatement, but I fail to see the racial aspect in that. He compared himself to two people. He didn't say "Because I'm an African American, I'm going to become a trendsetter like those before me"
5) He did not say because Pacquiao is not American he can't be trusted. He said that we have American athletes on our own soil that lie to the public, so why is a foreigner above lying to the people.
6) In the Shane Mosley video he said that he was rooting for Shane Mosley because he's a Black American fighter. As a spectator is that any different than fans rooting for British Fighter's because they are British? Pinoy fighter's because they are Pinoy? African American fighter's because they are African American. Puerto Ricans because they are Puerto Rican's? Irishmen rooting for Irishmen? There's a disturbing here that people tend to root for people who look like them or have some other kind of related feature. There's no need to sugar coat at all. Most people will tend to root for people who look like them. That's what makes it Boxing and not MMA or some other generic brand. Boxing feeds off both diversity(Boxing is very multi-cultural), but boxing is also ethnocentric(Puerto Ricans supporting Puerto Ricans, the Mexican community supporting Mexican's, etc...).
You're really reaching to relate ALL of these to race is insinuate that he's racist based on these findings.
When he says something like "Mexican's can't be trusted because Margarito is a cheater" or something like that, then yeah you'd have case. Until then it's one man's opinions, like it or not.Last edited by Biolink; 03-22-2010, 10:53 AM.

I have absolutely no problem at all with someone celebrating their heritage.
I'd have no problem at all with someone wearing a "Proud to be White" shirt either. No one would bat an eye at a "Proud be to Black" or "Proud to be Asian" shirt.
The politically correct media likes to sugar coat everything and pretend racism doesn't exist

I can tell u in Twitter Floyd only mentions or responds to other black people's tweets. He atleast admitted he only cares for blacks. There is no way I would support his next fight. I do agree that most fans root for their own ethnicity or nationality like how pinoys simply TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS to the possibility that pac has taken PED's. I mean for them its impossible that a man who cheats on his wife woudln't cheat in a sport to make millions.
But i am an exception as I look at the character and skills for the fighter. Usually i do root for my nationality or ethnicity but I rooted for Hopkins over Trinidad and Calzaghe over Lacy.

how would you decribe those actions?
They are at the very least xenophobic if not racist.
I know race & nationality are different but when you make statements like that it can be construed as racism. Like you said they are very thinly intertwined.

To be honest i think its phony black pride. I think its just so that he can scour as much ppv hits as possible so he uses the black pride angle.
Now i know im gonna get "well boricuas, mexicans, & filipinos use ethnic pride to sell tickets too" retort. Well how many boricuas are in the states? How many filipinos? The thing about floyd is that he's not honest about it. He never exhibited all this nationalism before when he was pro. I know he was in the olympic team but that was a long time ago. The Pacquiaos, Cottos, & Margaritos (just to use them as examples) have always relied on their people. From the very beginning. With floyd, only when he has ppv competition does he start bursting with patriotism. That's my problem with this whole thing. He never used to bring up race, nationalism, black power before.
The mexicans, puerto ricans, armenians, filipinos are a minority in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Its only natural for them to find support from their people because they are fighting in a foreign land. When pac fought solis in the philippines i dont think i even saw a philippne flag when he was walking in the ring like he does when he is in the states. Why? Because he's in the philippines.
Floyd really shouldnt have to work hard & have to resort to fake natiolistic pride because he is fighting IN THE UNITED STATES. HE IS THE MAJORITY HERE. THIS IS WHERE HE LIVES.

MEMO TO FLOYD:
Its 2010. Not 1950. Stop trying to be Ali. Stop race baiting in ORDER TO GET MORE PPV BUYS. Its utterly shameless.
Yet watch the floyd fan boys defend this recent remark.
Watch.
