How can you compare their respective paths, when one fighter has already been at that weight for half a decade?
Floyd spent 2 years retired so how was he at WW for 5 years again?

How is not making weight considered cheating? Cheating would imply you did something illegal. Not meeting the terms of a contract are more accurate. This whole catch weight nonsense is garbage anyway. JMM wanted to move up then he should have come in at full WW. When Mayweather fought De La Hoya, he didn't ask De La Hoya for a catch weight did he? You are pointing out something that had very little bearing on how the outcome of that fight would have gone down. Mayweather could have been 2 lbs smaller and still would have beat JMM with ease. It was skill that beat JMM not size. Mayweather is not some giat compared to JMM. He schooled JMM plain and simple.

What you label as "retirement", most boxing insiders simply laughed off as an extended vacation.

When SRL came out of the first of his many retirements, he faced Marvin Hagler. He didn't request a gimme, asking a fighter to hurdle weight classes just to face him. Now in one breath Floyd says that he doesn't fight for belts, but his fluffers...fans will say he faced Baldomir and Judah because they were title fights, yet all the while knowing they were far from the best opposition. He hasn't faced the best names at welterweight, even you know that...if he did....please name them? (referring only to welterweight division)

Again how many fights did he have at WW during his retirement?

Floyds not allowed a tune up?

Didnt Cotto fight Jennings and Gomez?

              Didnt Marg fight Golden Johnson?

              No?

Cotto fought tuneups in between and after big fights...ie Margarito and Mosley. In addition Cotto wasn't known as a consistent PPV seller, so showcase fights on HBO were the natural course of promotion for him at that time in his career, yet he still managed to face Mosley, Margarito and Clottey, all of whom were ranked highly at the time among welterweights.

When did Cotto become a welterweight? When did Floyd? Cotto has names on his resume like Mosley, Margarito,Clottey and Pac in the span of that time. Mayweather has been a welterweight since 2005 and is only now facing the biggest name at welterweight he will have faced in five years, nothing wrong with that picture to you?

Yet all Mayweather fans want to do is to integrate Pac into their defense of Mayweather's resume at welterweight.

it does not matter what happened in the fight...

in wrestling, mma, karate, etc. there are weight divisions for a reason...

if u dont make weight...u fight someone bigger or u dont fight at all
