    full interview here

    1. How do you feel one week before your next big fight in the US?

Maidana: I have had the best preparation of my entire career. Now I am at 144 lbs, eight days before the fight, perfect.

    2. How and were did you prepare for Cayo?

Maidana: I have started preparation 60 days ago and have been training for 35 days here in Las Vegas, focussing on the fight and holding a special diet.

    3. How do you think about your opponent Victor Cayo? You know him well?

Maidana: I have watched several videos. He has a good technique, swift legs, very fast. I hope we will not be able to resist my power, and if he is, then I am prepared to win on points.

    4. Are you angry, that Amir Khan didn´t want to fight you?

Maidana: You know, Khan wouldn’t like to face me at the moment. This shows his intelligence. I would have liked to make a unification fight right now, but my Manager Mario Margossian advised me that it would be better to make two fights in the US before the unification, which will be a very important fight.

    5. Would you even beat Khan? How do you think about him?

Maidana: I have watched various tapes of Khan’s fights and thus know him quite well. He will not be able to resist my attacks. I am sure that I am going to win by KO.

    6. How do you think about your defeat against Kotelnik one year ago?

Maidana: This was a very balanced fight. I think I would have deserved a very close win, but the judges did not see it that way. This defeat really hurt me, but helped me develop, I scrutinized myself and tried to advance in every way, and this is what I continue to do.

refreshing to see a fighter not cry robbery after a close fight.

Maidana lost his chance to fight Khan when he accepted step aside money. He will probably get beaten between now and his next couple of fights and will lose his shot at fighting for the title. Maybe if he wasn't so short sighted he would have demanded that Khan fight him or drop the belt instead. But money talks I suppose. Now I probably won't get the chance to see Khan KO this guy.

I really wish Khan fights and outclasses this guy.

Yes he has raw power, and Khan has a suspect chin, but I believe Khan will win by a wide UD.

Maidnana hasn't seen speed like this.

He certainly has the power to knock anyone out but....Khan would wipe the floor with him.

GL: What do you say in response to those who say Malignaggi is a good boxer, but Khan will walk right through him?

Paul Malignaggi: "Actually, I've heard worse than that. I've actually seen Khan get critcized for fighting me and that's amazing. I don't think Maidana wins a round against me. People are into criticizing Khan for taking me on instead of Maidana, like he belongs ahead of me or soemthing. What has Maidana accomplished that was so good? I'm a former world champion, he isn't."

GL: Maidana is the guy who lost to Kotelnik, which made him a Victor Ortiz opponent last year and now that Maidana beat Ortiz and Ortiz has no intentions of fighting in the near future, HBO has to make a monster out of Maidana in order to justify their classification of Ortiz as Generation Next.

PM: "Exactly G. I love it when you break things down like that. And who the hell did Ortiz beat before he fought Maidana? I know promoters have to hype their own fighters because they have agendas, but I'm surprised at some of the things the press is saying. To criticize Khan for fighting me like I'm a chump is crazy, I guess Maidana can punch and that means everything to some people in this business. A lot of these press guys are a bunch of geeks and dorks who don't even know what a slap feels like, let alone a punch. These guys really think that a punch from a professional fighter won't hurt? I assure you I would knock every single one of these geeks out with one shot. I don't hit that light. A punch in the face is a punch in the face. I think these guys take the punching power to another level. It's very important, but there's other things that make a great fighter. I don't Maidana is a bad fighter, I just think I outclass him. Maidana is a much easier fight than Khan."

Because Ortiz kept leaving his chin open when he had Maidana hurt and down, There is no hungry/Desperate fighter like a fighter who has just been hurt.
