You're either being ridiculous, or you're a hopeless nuthugger. GPB have paid off Maidana so that he would agree not to exercise his mandatory option for at least three fights and at least a year. They're scared ****less that Khan's chin would get exposed. Maidana is very well known to the HBO audience, having demolished HBO's most hyped prospect in front of a huge audience in a fight of the year candidate last year. The Malignaggi fight would have been okay if it had been on the basis that he'd fight his mandatory next, but it wasn't on that basis. He won't fight his mandatory for at least a year and at least another three fights, and anyone who defends that corrupt, cowardly behaviour, which makes a complete mockery of boxing as a sport, is not a boxing fan, end of story.



He's trying to pull the wool over your eyes, and he seems to have succeeded. GBP have paid Maidana to agree not to fight Khan for at least three fights, and have made it clear in numerous interviews that Maidana is not in their plans for Khan this year. If Khan is sincere about that, he needs to stand up to GBP - and to Roach, who has also made it clear that he doesn't want Khan to fight Maidana for several more fights.

There's a precedent for all this. Khan also said he wanted a rematch with Prescott last year (before Prescott lost), but Warren and Roach over-ruled him, and Khan backed down. Even if he's sincere this time, GBP and Roach will over-rule him again; and unless he has changed his spots since the last time (unlike the leopard), he won't stand up to them this time either.

If he'd done that, Khan would have vacated, Roach made that clear; and Maidana would not have been offered any HBO slots by GBP; whereas as things stand he's been offered three HBO slots.

He was given the choice between fighting for a paper title against a nobody for very little money and being frozen out of HBO for the foreseeable future by his own promoter, or waiting a year before challenging for the title but making far more money. Which would you choose in his position? It amounted to both bribery and blackmail. It's disgusting, and terrible for boxing as a sport, and anyone who tries to defend this sort of di****able and corrupt over-protectionism simply does not care about boxing.
