Michael some of that is true, a lot of past champions have bended the rules very cleverly, elbows, headbutts etc are very dangerous just like rabbit punches, this happens in a lot of sports,some people try to win at all costs, even the so called greats

It was probably torn further by the tape on a glove, or an unintentional headbutt. I've analyzed it many times, and it's just not completely clear where or when it was torn wider after the punch initially opened it.
