Quartey was a better fighter than Clottey, actually came to win rather than survive, but De La Hoya was lucky to win the decision. De La Hoya finished strong and nearly stopped him. Great. Does that mean he actually won six rounds? He did **** all for most of the fight. Being GENEROUS to De La Hoya, he won 3 of the first 5 rounds, round 10, and round 12. The 6th was clearly an Ike round as he controlled the round after the KDs. So being generous to DLH, he still loses 114-113.
Quartey-De La Hoya is also possibly the most overrated fight in recent years. Two exciting rounds and 10 rounds of posing. I heard people say it was the best WW fight since the early 80s and some guy wrote an article having it as the 4th best WW fight of the last 40 years. Watch a fight like Davis-Breland, Brown-Tric, or Page-Lopez and then watch Quartey-De La Hoya.
Davis-Breland was an awesome fight. Back and forth shifts with one of those Gatti-Rodriguez/Kelley-Gainer-like endings. That eye was pretty disgusting.
