One weakness I spotted last night in Pacquiao

I agree. Cotto popped his head up w/ the same punch.
What I noticed is that Pacquiao doesn't have much defense. His best defense is his offense.
When he stops punching all he does is cover up.
The problem w/ that is that he only stops punching for 10 to 15 seconds at a time per round so your window to take advantage is very small.
We will know when Packy is shot by the amount of time he takes in between punch flurries.
Right now, if you can't get your shots in within that 10 to 15 second span, he'll run right over you.Comment

i agree with most post so far saying that pac baited him in the beggining of the fight but he got he with those three upper cuts in the last round or second last round i think, but i think that pac also got hit with that straight right a couple of times aswell and if clottey kept up the pace in the early rounds it would have been a much closser fight.Comment

his defense isnt bad...it gets the job done, and the best part is that he can mix in offense in the middle of his defense with his quick hands...and that is what nullified Clottey so badly(well, alongside the 100+ combination punches a round and his effective body work, lol).I agree. Cotto popped his head up w/ the same punch.

yea, Cotto hit him with some good left uppercuts too, and I think in past fights Ive also seen Pacquiao hit by that punch. Id say that hes the most open to a close range left uppercut more than anything else.
Manny Pacquiao has won a unanimous decision over Joshua Clottey in their welterweight fight, keeping up his reputation as the world's best pound-for-pound fighter.
go to 'Pacquiao on his win over Clottey'. his right eye is more marked up than would be suggested by his dominance in the fight.Comment

He's only open for that punch when he covers up w/ out punching and lets the other guy walk into his chest.his defense isnt bad...it gets the job done, and the best part is that he can mix in offense in the middle of his defense with his quick hands...and that is what nullified Clottey so badly(well, alongside the 100+ combination punches a round and his effective body work, lol).

I think he's more vulnerable to a straight right hand more than anything. He can't see a good straight right hand coming to save his life.Comment

I think you have a point there....it did look like Pacquiao was trying to sucker Clottey into throwing, I noticed that too.
I dont know though, even when youre trying to do that you dont go out of your way to eat flush consecutive left uppercuts. not in the middle of a fight.
Pacquiao's defense is just fine, but I think theres a little bit of a gap in his guard for left uppercuts to get through. defense was never his strongest point anyway though, so it doesnt entirely matter.
Pacquiao is trying to bait Clottey to open up by letting him hit him (see COTTO's fight also) but, but, but one thing we have to realize is that those hits last night (or against COTTO) were from really up-close when he would stand in front of them purposely.
Pacquiao was never stand-in-your-face fighter. He is Tysonesque in his side-to-side weaving inorder to time his counters or about to launch his relentless combination....typically.
That meant that in the middle of the ring, Pacquiao likes to engage to open his opponents up. In a typical fight wherein both fighters really want to box (unlike last night), Pacquiao can be hit...but not that hittable. Relatively speaking.
But you have a point....and that is something that Mayweather can exploit also should they fight. But Pacquiao can pose some clear and intent danger also should Mayweather engage in a combat.
But I am afraid that Mayweather's way is very similar with Clottey in the light that they will expose their opponents by "observing" in letting them work while they defend. The difference is their style and technicalities. Floyd is a master of his style while Clottey is a bit and relatively a bonehead.
Let's bring it on! MAYWEATHER (OR MOSLEY) VS PACQUIAO BY THE END OF THE YEAR!Comment

hmm...I just dont see Mayweather using the left uppercut against Pacquiao. especially not in the fashion thats most effective...while leaning in at close range. Mayweather will be behind the right hand and left hook all night, and probably grab when it gets too close.I think you have a point there....

Ive always wanted to see Pacquiao fight a TRUE pressure fighter...one that really can effectively close the distance and force the fight on the inside. (Hatton doesnt actually fit that description, he does more lunging forward and grabbing on the inside than actually infighting) I thought wed see that against Cotto, but Cotto had developed into more of a boxer by the time that fight came around.
Gosh Id love to see Mayweather/Mosley vs Pacquiao. lets just cross our fingers, eh?Comment
