i thought a promoter couldn't get money if his two fighters are fighting eachotherno not straight cash. arum gets 28% of pacs purse and considering clottey is like 2nd tier arum prob gets 25%. After taxes, advances, corner, manager, promoter etc gets their slice Clottey will have like around < 300k. the tax bracket for a million dollars/year is like 42%-49%. Half goes to uncle sam, arum gets approx a 3rd so thats like -150k approx. so thats like 350k. trust me he'll be like taking home 250k about. who said he's getting slice of ppv? havent read that anywwherComment

Finally somebody with some sense. These cats act as if he'll be fighting for the rest of his life. He has maybe 5 years left in the sport and probably only 2-3 fights to make serious money. And all the money he makes has to last until he dies unless he wants to go broke and work like the rest of us. Reading these posts reminds me that the majority of this forum is under 21 years old and living with mama.If anything it speaks volumes of how smart he is.
If he was rolling around in a Ferrari, I would almost be certain he WILL BE broke when he retires, because he's not making THAT kind of money.
He has probably made maybe 3-5 Million his entire career... this money has to last him his entire life after boxing: 40-50 years.
Happy to see that he IS living in an apartment.Comment

300k is a lot of money especially if you invest most of it in property, you can buy a really nice house in most suburbs in the US for that kind of money, and you watch that appreciate in 5-10 years, especially with the economy at the moment, it is the perfect time to buy property if you have the cash.
Also Bennett you are way over exaggerating what boxers lose on costs, the rule of thumb is that a million dollar pay day will get you about 1/2 of your stated purse, so clottey will probably be on around $500-600k for this fight. Also any world title fight has a minimum purse bid, thus the rule. I bet you that when he was world champ he probably made between $200-300k average for each fight, including the cotto fight which was probably above average for a world title fight, and considering he was the champ.
He has probably made between $500-750k in his career thus far, which is more than enough to live, and he is about to double that figureLast edited by sunny31; 03-11-2010, 08:28 PM.Comment

I also read that it is a million plus some ppv revenue, if you google it, it says on a number of different boxing websites, he must be getting like 5%, which could actually be another million if it does better than expectedComment
