Comments Thread For: Orlando Cuellar in The Running To Train Miguel Cotto

Orlando Cuellar, trainer of Yuriorkis Gamboa and Glen Johnson, is in the running to train Miguel Cotto for his June 5 bout with WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman. Cuellar was contacted by Cotto's team to see if he was interested in coming on board. Foreman recently hired veteran trainer Emanuel Steward to assist with his training camp. I dont know much about this trainer but I know gamboas style is NOTHING like cottos.. neither in the way of speed, defense, or movement... im not too sure this would be the best choice of trainer for cotto... even though at this point any switch might be better than joe santiago was...

Not a bad, choice. But I still believe Evangelista or Ronnie Shields would be better or him

hey ch@mp... i heard you have an in as far as the cotto camp is concerned... is there a specific reason that they would pick a trainer like this as opposed to one like ronnie shields or buddy mcgirt? it seems to me like maybe the cotto camp wants to increase their speed in order to compete at a higher weight division and be faster... just wondering...

I don't think its just that.

If this is Gambo's trainer then he's pretty decent, He's actually sharpened Gamboa's defense a bit and is better than Santiago at this point.

Well the thing is that Cuellar, like to train guys that like to comeforward and fight, example Glen Johnson. He seems to like Cottto and have been watching Cotto for a couple of years now. It seems that he knows what he can correct and what is needed to Correct in Cotto style. He also speaks spanish so thats a big plus!!!!

Cottos camp dont really like McGirt, their second choince would be Shields

                    ¿Why this guy?

I don't think Cuellar is the best option when there are better talented & better known trainers out there like Ronnie Shields, Buddy McGirt among others... There are also many good trainers right here in Puerto Rico that are capable of doing the job & would be more than happy to train Miguel..One is Freddy Trinidad(no relation to Tito or Felix Sr.)who trains and has done a great job with Miguel's brother José & other fighters, there's also Piñero who trains Juanma among others & was the one who taught Evangelista(Miguels uncle) how to become a trainer & Manny Siaca Sr who trains his son & was the former trainer of exchamp Edwin "El Chapo" Rosario...
