This is the perfect fight for Hatton. This fight would make Hatton a star with the hard core US boxing fans without even taking on one of the top guys. I think you can throw Augustus record out in this one. He will know this is his shot for the big times. He would be so focus for this fight. I could see the crowd going crazy for Hatton and Augustus loving every second of it. I think he would feed off the crowd rooting against him and start scoring and dancing and smiling. This one would have fight of the year written all over it. I think Augustus will be showing Hatton up but would end up clowning around on lose on the scorcards. Only a dream fight though. Theres nothing to gain for Hatton besides the respect of the US fans, but there everything to lose.

Hatton vs Augstus in Germany

Actually, yes this would be a good match-up. But it would never happen for a few reasons.
Warren would never let Hatton in with a guy with that kind of record. It looks bad.
Warren would not want to risk Hatton being in with a journeyman that has a very real chance at the upset. A motivated Augustus can win.
This would be a fun one to watch, but unrealistic to think it would happen.
According the the front of the site, Hatton is signing to fight KT, using Augustus as a warm up is very dangerous.
Remember Vilches?, he was going to get his shot at Mitchel and used Augustus as a tune up.......Vilches was stopped in five.
Another thing, I think Augustus retired.........but that could be rumor.

Augustus is a victim of Irish Micky Ward. He was floored in 2001 in the 9th by Ward who went on to win by UD10 in a fight that THE RING (magazine) dubbed FIGHT OF THE YEAR 2001.
His last fight was June this year. He lost (SD10) to Courtney Burton (Note: Agustus was born Emanuel Burton. I don't know if they're related) after having been penalized a point for spinning out of a clinch in the 8th round.
He has won only two of his last ten fights and managed two draws. His victories were over Trujillo and Vilches; the latter was stopped due to cuts suffered by Vilches. Augustus took the Vilches fight on two days notice.
His KO rate is less than 50%: of his 29 wins, he KOd 14 foes. He has 24 losses-- just 5 short of his total wins. But of all those losses, he was stopped only three times: by Pretty Boy Floyd (TKO--Augustus' cornerman climbed the ring to implore the ref to stop the fight in October 2000), Allan Vester (in Denmark, 1999, KO12) and Jesus Chavez (In Forthworth, 1995, KO7)
He stands 5'6 and is 29 years old.
Would he be tough test for Hatton?
Another question: would Hatton improve his stature in the eyes of fans (internationally) if he beats an Augustus?
Third question: would it help sell tickets for a Tszyu-Hatton meeting?

I would side with Emmanuel Augustus on this one. I think Ricky would make a mistake to climb into the ring with him. Remember what he did to Trujillo? He won that fight against Burton (Courtney) but was robbed in the worst way! He was also a pot-head but he says he stopped smoking. He would've lost the fight to Burton anyway because he tested positive after the fight.
Anywho, Augustus > Ricky in a war!

No dispute there, it was a fun fight to watch, not classic boxing, but fun.

A fight most who saw it (I did) had Augustus clearly....easily winning. He was robbed, as he has been many times in the past.

He made a good prospect Trujillo look amaturish, and was clearly outclassing Vilches before the stoppage.

No dispute there, Augustus is what he is, a journeyman.

Would he be tough test for Hatton?
A resounding yes. He is a good test for anyone. An interested Augustus can give a great fight.
Another question: would Hatton improve his stature in the eyes of fans (internationally) if he beats an Augustus?
Of course not, this was one of my points. His fans that fill the MEN arena want to see an oponent with a winning record. But to people who know boxing, a win against Augustus is better than 85% of the opponents he has faced in the past.
Third question: would it help sell tickets for a Tszyu-Hatton meeting?
Again, no. That was never the point. What myself and the original poster were simply saying is that it would be a good fight. It would never happen, but if it did, it would be a good one....based on styles.
Does this clear things up?

I'll go with my buddy Emanual Augustus Burton on this one, I have a hunch he could pull off the upset and finally get one of the alphabet titles at the same time!

I chatted with August on ********** a few weeks back and he said that he's preparing for a fight in late December. I think that horrible "loss" to Burton really brought his spirits down.
