      this kid is nothing special.
he lost rather easily only to get a gift from gary shaw.
he fights nothing like tszyu either.
no jab and hes got a weak right hand.

Yep. 100% correct. Got the same hair-do as Tszyu. That's about it.

he mite be like tszyu latter on down the road only time will tell......but going from that fight he needs alot more time in the gym.......plus tszyu was good at the start of his career......he got pretty sloppy when he got in2 his 30;s...........maybe zappa is a lil sloppy at the start of his carrer but will be top notch in his 30;s.....like i said only time will tell...

even before the cuts i didnt see anything special. hes got a decent left hook and a good chin. thats about it.
angulo's a journeyman, who took this fight on short notice, was down 3 times in his last fight and was forced to try to lose 3 lbs yesterday.
              angulo beat zappa.

its also not a good sign for zappa being so young and cutting easily.

Everytime i see this guys name i read it as "zappavagina" :| But yeh I used to think he was gonna be great but after his last few fights it's clear he's just above average, he has good all round skills but nothing exceptional.

No offence but Tszyu beat Juan Laporte in his 4th pro fight and Sammy Fuentas and Livingstone Bramble before he had ten fights. Tszyu won his first world title in his 14th bout. Zappavigna at 22-0 just struggled with a guy coming off two straight losses.

Perhaps you are setting the bar a bit high for Zappa.

Time has already told. By the time Kostya was 22 he'd compiled an amateur record of 259-11 and won the 1991 World Amateur Championships, dominating Vernon Forrest in the final. This the culmination of an outstanding amateur career.

Here is a history of Kostya's fights up to his world title:

Tszyu started raising his quality of opposition almost immediately. In his fourth professional bout, he met the former WBC Featherweight champion of the world Juan Laporte, decisioning him over ten rounds. In his sixth bout, he beat contender Sammy Fuentes by a knockout in the first.

In 1994, Hector Lopez, Angel Hernandez (who had just come off of a loss after challenging Julio César Chávez for the WBC belt), and Pedro Chinito Sanchez from the Dominican Republic tried to beat Tszyu, but Tszyu beat Lopez by a decision in ten, Hernandez by a knockout in seven, and Sanchez by a knockout in four. After the win against Sanchez, Tszyu was ranked number one in the Light Welterweights.

In 1995, he received his first world title shot when he fought IBF World Junior Welterweight Champion Jake Rodriguez at Las Vegas, Nevada. Tszyu became world champion by knocking Rodriguez out in the sixth round, and then defended the world title, beating former world Junior Lightweight and Junior Welterweight Champion Roger Mayweather by a decision in 12, Hugo Pineda by a knockout in 11, Cory Johnson by a knockout in four and Jan Bergman by a knockout in six. After this string of defences, Tszyu became a highly touted World Champion by many boxing magazines, and many articles about him appeared on The Ring, KO Magazine, and other American boxing publications.

........ So there you have it. Kostya was challenging world class opponents pretty much from day dot. He wasn't just beating them but annihilating them. He certainly wasn't fighting the likes of Rey Anton Olarte and failing to knock them out. Or getting gift decisions like Lenny Zappa did today.

I wasnt at all impressed by Zappavigna. He may well improve, but he is going to have to get on a pretty steep curve to get to world title level. That said,it was the first time I have seen him fight, and could have been an off night. Horrible defense though.
