You need 3500 calories to burn 1 pound of fat.

My goal is to lose 20 pounds within the next 3-4 months. I'm starting a new workout program and nutrition plan soon and I would like to know how many calories I must burn to lose 1 pound? In order to lose one pound, you must have a calorie deficit of approximately 3,500 calories. This

How many calories must I burn to lose 1 pound?

    exercise questions Exercise Answer:

There are 3,500 calories in one pound of body fat. You should focus on creating a deficit of 500 calories a day, which over the course of one week will result in one pound of weight loss (500 calories X 7 days = 3,500 calories). This can either be accomplished through burning the calories through exercise, creating a caloric deficit through your diet or a combination of both. I recommend a combination because its the easiest way to incorporate into an overall fitness plan. Work on making a small change in your diet to create a 250 calorie deficit and then add about 30 minutes of cardio training a day to burn the other 250 calories. A great workout
will consist of cardio cross training a few exercises such as jogging on the treadmill and jumping rope.

How many calories do I need to burn to lose a pound of fat?
3500 calories is the rough estimate for the energy contained in one pound of fat. This means that to lose one pound per week, you must create a deficit of 3500 calories per week. Since a week as 7 days, that means a deficit of 3500 / 7 = 500 calories per day.

This is a great starting point. The reality is much more complex .. for example, 3500 calories will not produce a pound of muscle, it actually takes more than that, etc etc ... but as a general rule of thumb, it gives you a starting point and then you can play with the numbers from there.

To really appreciate the power of losing even a pound of fat, visit How Many Pounds? and find out interesting facts such as how many pots of coffee you could brew or how many times you could walk across England with the calories you burn.

You don't need 3500 calories to burn a pound of fat. There's 3500 calories IN a pound of fat.

To lose a pound of fat, you need to burn that amount of calories.

Most of which the body expends by itself. No normal person can burn 3500 calories a day through exercise alone. I usually do 800 to 1000 (which takes an hour and a bit) per session, and leave the rest to nature - i.e. just by walking around, sleeping, sitting, and existing.

Then again, I only eat about 1000 to 1500 calories a day. Sometimes none at all. Weight draining is gooooooooooooooood!

Ergh. I only do 4 days of an hour each, tops. In my case there's no need for any more - it's not as if I'm in training for anything.

And yeah, it's tiring as hell. I've tried for months to be 130, but I've been stuck at around 135 and under for ages (although bearing in mind that I was a fat **** at 164 half a year ago).

I'm running the London Marathon this year. Running 1 and a half hours burns a lot, and is tough, but it's nothing compared the to cardio vascular you need to box and spar.

Hitting the heavy bag at full power, skipping and sit ups, and treadmill etc must burn a lot, but I'm not world class.

Running 8-9 miles on the road is damn tough. Your body has to be strong from the neck to hold your head still, your shoulders, arms, back, stomach, thighs, calves, feet. I am out of breathe and my heart rate is high and tested, but sparring takes it a hell of a lot out of me. Probably taking me near 180 heart rate.

I made this thread because I do believe a pro athlete can consume that much.

I assume Manny runs quite abit a day. I'm not sure on the calories he needs though.

For him, he does lose his muscle. His weight is not consistent like most of us.

He gains fat, and loses muscle when not training like msot. Then he needs to burn that off, and in the process needs to build up muscle. He's damn toned so I do believe that he needs a lot. His body only does it for 12 weeks max though. His weight stays fairly the same because the changes of lsoing fat and gaining muscle equal out.

And body building is another totally different sport. Get them to run on a treadmill and watch them tire out like fools. The heart is the key to calories.
