BoxingScene.com spoke with Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum to touch base on the ongoing rumors that Fernando Montiel will travel to Japan to fight Hozumi Hasegawa in a bantamweight unification bout on April 30. As previously reported on BoxingScene, the rumors are false. This past Monday, Teiken Promotions held a press conference in Japan to announce the fight. Arum, who co-promotes Montiel with Mexico-based Zanfer Promotions, confirmed BoxingScene's story on the situation. Pursuant to a prior agreement, Montiel has to fight interim-champion Eric Morel of Puerto Rico. [Click Here To Read More]

Fuckin A to that about the best needing to fight the best. Arum is a sleeze ball. So he's gonna award that baby ****r who just got a gift against Penalosa? This is pathetic. Abner Mares is the only Mexican prospect who's stepping up. And this statement is coming from someone who respects Mexican boxing.Comment

Look at how many competitive fights that Arum has **** blocked. All of his fighters against Williams in a potential fight with maybe the exception of Pavlik. More on the list:
Pavlik-Abraham
Lopez-Caballero and now Lopez-Gamboa (and they are in his stable for christ sakes).
Valero-Bradley
Pacquiao-Mayweather is a no-brainer.
And now this one.Comment

Morel has been waiting for his shot for nearly two years. The obligation is NOT to Top Rank. The obligation is to the "WBO." There was a pre-existing agreement that Montiel had to fight the winner of Morel-Penalosa. Morel is not a Top Rank promoted fighter and Montiel NEVER agreed to fight Hasegawa IN JAPAN.Look at how many competitive fights that Arum has **** blocked. Damn, it should've been Penalosa-Hasegawa in Japan in a perfect righteous world.
An easily made fight too.Comment

LOL, I know, huh. Can you blame Arum though. Why would he send Montiel to Japan to fight a guy who has a legit shot at beating Fernando, not only a chance but alot of fans/expert alike favor Hasegawa.
At the same time, this is probably the same reason we ain't seen Hasegawa in US soil. It goes both ways.Comment
