I highly recommend Arturo Gatti fights, especially the Ward Trilogy.
Most fights i would recommend have been suggested already, I doubt anyone has mentioned Chris Eubanks fights against Carl Thompson. Really good fight with lots of excitement. Check it out.

So basically i'm looking for recommendations about which fights, but i have a few boxes to tick:

I'd prefer them to be modern fights, mid/late 80's is probably the earliest i'd go (unless there's some stellar examples).

They can be excellent either cause of their intensity and excitement, or because of how sweet the talent and skills are - to this extent a one sided beatdown isn't really what i'm after, but if you can suggest a brilliant display that brings excitement then go for it (probably early Tyson stuff?).

Strange, but i'd like them to be big events, good crowd, lots of noise etc. I'm trying to get my mate hooked and I think if the arena is empty or silent then it may take away a lot for him.

And finally, I want about 3 or 4 fights i think, so maybe a couple of 12 rounders and maybe a couple of shorter ones?

And if i can get them high quality thats a bonus

Cheers guys! and green k for input!
I know it's not what you asked for, but if you want to get someone hooked maybe you should hit em from a different angle. Here's a few documentaries that will tug at your heart, make you question how one could love such a brutal sport, and provide insight into the minds of some great fighters.

Triumph and Tragedy: The Ray Mancini Story

In the World Boxing Association lightweight title fight Nov. 13, 1982, Mancini delivered a knockout blow in the 14th round that ended the fight and sent Kim to the hospital. Kim was brain dead and four days later he was removed from life support. In Korea, Kim became a larger-than-life figure in death. Overcome by grief, his mother committed suicide 11 weeks after her son’s death. Mancini was devastated and, until now, has not given an extended interview on the fight and Kim’s subsequent death.

                Vazquez-Marquez: The Trilogy

is a two-hour documentary that takes viewers inside this incredible rivalry; a rivalry rooted in Mexican pride, fueled by warrior-like determination and cultivated by mutual respect for one another - a true rarity in sport. The in-depth documentary breaks down each of the three fights with opinions and analysis from the fighters, their managers and trainers, reporters and industry experts.

                ASSAULT IN THE RING

revisits a boxing scandal considered one of the sport’s darkest hours, and traces a man’s despairing journey following his alleged involvement in a criminal plot. The documentary examines new evidence about this boxing match turned 30-minute assault, and reveals much more about the pre-fight activities of Luis Resto, his trainer Panama Lewis and the athletic commission representatives.

                The Michael Watson Story

Little did Michael Watson know that when he stepped into the ring on 21 September 1991 to fight Chris Eubank for the World Boxing Organisation Super Middleweight title, it was a fight that would nearly cost him his life.

Ten years on, Fighting Back - The Michael Watson Story, tells of his remarkable recovery from the brink of death and features his first public meeting with Eubank.

                Facing Ali

He rocked the sport, shook the world, and changed their lives. Now, several decades after they met in the ring, ten of the sport's finest fighters tell what it was like to battle Muhammad Ali, the man many consider the best boxer ever. This brutally honest documentary recounts Ali's incomparable journey as seen through the eyes of those who stepped through the ropes and into history. Join these respected fighters as they weigh in on "The Greatest" and pay tribute to a living legend in this powerful and unforgettable film.

If that's not good enough and you want an action packed fight with drama, I suggest Gatti vs. Rodriquez.

I think i'll take a stack of them, and pick the next fights based on what he liked about the one we just watched.

Giving green k to everyone I can!

Althoguh Margacheto won the fight with Cotto the man's chin seemed to be indestructable. I've never seen someone take that abount of punishment and keep coming forward. It was as if Cottos punches did nothing at all to him. Does Shane Mosley really hit that much harder than Cotto or were the gloves really the difference I think once Margarito was found out his conscience made him throw the fight because it is what he deserved.
