      The reason it came about was that many years ago it was as you say weigh in to or below a division weight and then fight , but trainers trying to get an edge were putting fighters in semi dehydrate so they could have the bigger man at the weight , they found that this practice is very dangerous in boxing for contributing to brain swelling so for medical reasons they made the weigh in 30 hrs before knowing trainers were always going to try to have fighters as big as they can be at their lightest weight , so they made the rules so they had the time to rehydrate back up to their normal weight , this whole process about making weight is a science that has consequences if you get it wrong , many fights have been won at lost on the scales .

        to protect a fighter's hands and wrists. resulting in more punches being thrown, more entertaining fights, and higher knockout probabilities.

        the whole reason gloves were invented
