Whats the point of making weight?...

if its only gonna weaken you if youre planning to lose 5-15 lbs during weigh-in? why not fight in your natural weight, no excess baggage reduced?

I have been thinking about this too since some bigger fighters can make weights that others can't for whatever reason and sometimes you have more than a 10lb weight disparity in the ring.

I mean there has to be some standard to measure fair competition and in many cases this 24 hour weigh in doesn't cut it.

Right now its the rule so the only point in making weight is; because if you don't you could get fined or lose your title/ title shot.

maybe its because so bigger fighters can fight smaller ones? overall i think this benefits bigger fighters on that weight class.. this is just my assumption. someone that actually knows, please explain

I mean some ppl say that everyone has the same advantages/disadvantages with that because bigger fighters cutting weight are "weight drained", but 2 things: 1. Not so if they blow back up 15lbs or more overnight 2. It was their choice to do that and they could easily have not and fought someone their own size.

Its not as if smaller fighter have the option of making themselves bigger to compete in higher weight classes, physically you have what nature gave you and right now them being considerably outweighed in fights puts them at a huge disadvantage with no other options.

They do , they lose fluid to make weight 30 hrs before and then they put the fliud back and fight at their normal weight .

The reason it came about was that many years ago it was as you say weigh in to or below a division weight and then fight , but trainers trying to get an edge were putting fighters in semi dehydrate so they could have the bigger man at the weight , they found that this practice is very dangerous in boxing for contributing to brain swelling so for medical reasons they made the weigh in 30 hrs before knowing trainers were always going to try to have fighters as big as they can be at their lightest weight , so they made the rules so they had the time to rehydrate back up to their normal weight , this whole process about making weight is a science that has consequences if you get it wrong , many fights have been won at lost on the scales .
