I don't think he'd be any better now, but he wouldn't have had those early two losses.

I think a big part of what actually makes Pacquiao so good now is that he didn't have an amatuer career. He starting fighting just to survive and that mentality is what makes him so good. He learned to become a fighter first and a boxer second. If he would have been an amatuer, it would probably mean he would have had a better up bringing, he wouldn't have been dirt poor and he would have competed in amatuer fighting as a pass time or hobby. Instead he got into the ring to fight for his next meal which gives him the mental edge over many of the top tier fighters right now. The guys that prioritize the paydays before fighting will never have the mental edge Manny has.

This is also why I think Clottey is such a dangerous fight for him, he's another guy that grew up poor so appreciates everything he gets. This is what makes Clottey so iron chinned, the mans got an incredible will to fight and survive.
Clottey's only downfall is he never had a great coach, where as Manny was fortunate enough to link up with Freddie Roach.

Maybe but oscar dela hoya was a tune up for pacquiao's 1st fight at welterweight and the Ricky hatton fight was probally a money fight, I admit David diaz was a bum i wanted pacman to fight juan diaz at the time he was undefeated but he did fight Miguel Cotto which was a dangerous fight for pacquaio even the hatton fight no one knew if he could handle ricky's style and power but he couldnt of fought williams, williams was jumping around in weight while pacquaio got up to welterweight and antonio margarito was banned so how could he fight them?

I completely agree with that assessment. My title probably should've been "Would he have been better?" There's not anyone more dangerous than one who has to fight to survive. The power of the mind And heart can't be taught or acquired. It's innate.

Good question. I'd like to see how good he would have been if he got with Roach in the beginning of his career. Amateurs generally are just learning the craft and alot of pros have said that it is a completely different experience turning pro.

Maybe he would have learned the art of fair play and wouldn't have become a steroid user in his late 20's.
