This is a serious eye opener...after reading it...I really hope that these doctors make the right decision before letting him loose in the US...valero has a fan in me...but none of this **** is worth his death...I know the family to feed thing plays a part in peoples decisions...but what good is he to his family if he's dead or injured in a way where it becomes their burdon to take care of him for the rest of his life? talk about walking on thin ice...
McGuigan talks about Valero

I don't think I'd agree with you there mate. I think the New York doctors and commission have acted in the same way they would do for an American boxer.i think it should depend on what the experts say, im no medical expert, but if the new york doctors have declared him unfit to box, then that should be enough to at the very least have him retested in Texas, Mexico and Venezuela.
There is also the political reasons for him not getting licensed, as he is a supporter of Hugo Chavez who is no friend of the american govt, so maybe he should get tested in Britain or Germany (or somewhere reputable) and see what they say.
Would be a shame if Valero couldnt fight again. It would be a much bigger shame if he died in the ring though.Comment

you're probably right, but Valero could claim that they just dont want him to fight in the states because of that, so if a neutral country (if there is such a thing) tested him and declared him unfit to box it would hold more water.
The fact he is ok to box in George Bush's state pretty much confirms in my head (although american politics is of no interest to me so i dont know much about it) that its not for political reasons, but i have read Valero state that he believes it is a reason for him not getting a license. So imo an independent country's commission should test him.Comment

Last year Arum was pullling heavy strings and it would ahve been pretty sure he would have been licenseed if he would have gotten a visa which he didn't.you're probably right, but Valero could claim that they just dont want him to fight in the states because of that, so if a neutral country (if there is such a thing) tested him and declared him unfit to box it would hold more water.

The reason why he didn't get one is because he didn't go to court for a DUI he did in Texas some time ago.Comment

I think i'm right in saying that even if you don't like his limited style, that's it's a very exciting one and one that we would surely miss if he was taken away from us prematurely. He's one of those fighters we need who will fight the best and who puts a lot of work into the sport he loves.
This is his job, this is how he puts food on the table for his family so it's hard to say he can't do it. I just hope the doctors who cleared him to fight are right in their diagnosis because if they aren't then this would be tragic for the boxing world.
Barry is talking a lot of sense which is rare from a British boxing perspective and i think people should take notice of this.Comment

i guess this depends if let your heart rule over your head.
no, he should not be boxing. No question.
But our hearts want to see exciting battles and he brings it to the table. Always.
Whilst he shouldn't fight, i'll not miss a single second every time he does.Comment
