Comments Thread For: Kevin Mitchell-Michael Katsidis in Play After Big Win

A big lightweight bout may be in play. Rising star Kevin Mitchell (31-0, 23KOs) stopped Ignacio Mendoza at Wembley Arena in two rounds on Saturday. Mitchell had few issues with his defense of the WBO intercontinental title. The next fight for Mitchell may come in the form of Michael Katsidis, who is the WBO's interim-lightweight champion. Katsidis could become the full champion with the current holder of the title, Juan Manuel Marquez, likely choosing to stay at 140-pounds.

Well Kevin did a pretty good job avoiding Prescott's power, I like his chances in this one.

Mitchell is a real prospect and fully deserves a title shot. Katsidis is very good, but I can't call the winner to be honest. Too close. Mitchell has an iron chin so Katsidis' power is not an issue. It'll come down to speed, stamina and skill.

Mitchell is very small at 135, Valero would KO him but I think he can possibly beat Katsidis.

I like Mitchell (I bet on him to beat Prescott); that said, how did you get to the conclusion that he has a an iron chin?

It'll come down to skill and styles more than anything, if the fight is fought at a distance, Mitchell will win. If the fight is fought mostly on the inside, Katsidis will win.

Katsidis' game plan is totally different from when he fought Diaz. He now sticks to a suffocating pressure style, where he bullies on the inside. Mitchell is pretty slick and has good foot movement, but it'll be tough for him to fight exactly where Katsidis wants it.
