Khan will not be big in America at all.

Im not to sure. Hes an exciting fighter, attack minded, fast hands and pretty powerfull, yet lacks abit in defense and has a questionable chin making him abit vunerable. All that makes for an exciting fighter in my eyes.
He's still young, so after a few fights against more well known names, i think he will sell alot of tickets.
he is a boring fighter now and IMO, will continue to have a boring style, especially if he steps up his comp. better competition= less risk taking= boring.
boring + no charisma = the thread title.Comment

By the way, I like Amir Khan. He just wont sell at all. He is no Naseem Hamed in terms of appeal, and for the guy who brought up paquaio, Pacquiao is one of the top draws not for his english, but because he knocks people the **** out, and destroys monsters.Comment

yes, but he has adjusted his style in order to protect his chin and IMO, he will continue to do so. which means using more legs, tying up on the inside, no exchanging, no taking chances, etc.

I think he can be very successful here, he has speed and power which American Fans love and hes very young. Hes like the ****** Golden Boy.Comment

I don't know what the demographics of his fan base in the UK is. But from the pro gym I go to where I saw him train once several years ago there is not a lot of interest in him from the hard core boxing fans. They look at him as a bit of a joke media creation that they don't see lasting . I strongly suspect his main fan base is based around a large Asian following, young giggly girls and teen age and early twenty somethings into image and not hard core fans. A new to boxing market seem to be based around him. I don't see the traditional US boxing fan being taken with him,the Maidana tie up scam and protecting won't go down well and his style won't bring the attention that a Hamed style would. Valero is going to be of far greater interst to US boxing fans than Khan, his single shot KO power, relentlessness and true willingness to fight the best is what they are looking for. With Khan they will see a hit it and hop it merchant that does not carry devastating power that will resort to unattractive boring tactics in order to win fights. He is not a gun ho go for it fighter that draws attention. He will certainly have to step up in class to get any hard core fans interested and if he does he will get KOd again, So I don't see the hard core US fight fan being taken with him. His success may depend on creating a similar the the UK demographics Asian ,giggly girl and youngsters into the image market. From my trips to the States I have not seen a huge amount of Asians. But I don't see failure to make it big in the States being a real problem for him as I don't see him losing the UK market he already has. Traditionally US fight fans have a pretty dim view of British fighters very few get respect I would imagine Nigel Benn would get the nod but that is a big hurdle to overcome and I don't see Khan having what it takes to make US fight fans sit up.Comment

He's no Hamed, but not many boxers really compare to Hamed in terms of style or selling power. Khan might bring a healthy contingent over from the UK, time will tell. Good crowd participation can raise the entertainment value of any fight. Also, Khan's chin still has questions to be answered but at the same time his chin might be part of a successful sales pitch imo.
was lennox lewis even embraced like ricky was? i cant remember, but did the british follow lennox over to the US for fights?Comment
-
Yes Lennox had a strong following. As did Bruno, Benn, Eubank...........Comment
-
of course he wont seem boring if he continues to fight salita caliber fighters, but i think once he steps up his competition he'll be even less willing to take risks in the ring.Comment
-
did the british follow lennox, bruno and benn to the US like they did for ricky?
do you think they will for amir as well?Comment
-
They did for the guys i mentioned, and they won't for Khan, most brits see through the sham, and americans will too.Comment
