    Is Boxing Almost Dead?

"No Rematch? Anything Else Is Superfluous By MICHAEL KATZ (May 12, 2005)
LAS VEGAS, May 12 - The game is over, but at least it went out with a **** last Saturday night. You don't have to attend the funeral to know boxing is dead when a fight lives up to all the hype ever imagined and still can't sell 5,000 tickets.

You don't have to shovel dirt on the game when a heavyweight "champion" loses his title because of steroids and it's not mentioned on the lead-in to SportsCenter.

Outside of the sicko fans wearing out web site mail bags, no one cares. Boxing has become as relevant as Don King's shampoo. It's not going to be brought back from the dead this weekend when a guy named Tito fights a guy named Winky.

It's time to stop and smell the rotting.

It's almost enough to make someone want to spit out his mouthpiece."-maxboxing.com

This is a quote from the beginning of Michael Katz article talking about boxing being dead. Do you feel the sport is dead? I don't

Well Trinidad is doing his part, and thats selling more PPV's of any fight this year, a simple thanks would be nice , and **** like having Hopkins vs. Taylor a PPV (which it is) is killing the Sport, and that boxing doesnt even make fighters fight the best.

I don't think the sport is dead, rather I think it is on a bit of a rebound.

Look at what NBC has started to do, look how ESPN has finally gotten into the fold a bit with its ever increasing competitive fights and birth of a PPV arm, look at fox with the best damn sports show....boxing dead?

Yeah only 5K attended last Saturdays thriller but too me that means ****...a more telling number will be when Diego and JL square off in a rematch...how many fans do you think will attend then?

            With...
            HBO Championship Boxing
            Boxing After Dark
            HBO Latino
            Showtime Championship Boxing
            Shobox
            ESPN Friday night fights
            ESPN PPV
            HBO/SHO PPV
            The Best Damn Sports Show
            The Contender
            Telefutura

There is more boxing on today then there ever has been...well since I have benn a diehard and that is pushing about 15 years!

I think that it is only a matter of time before an NBC, CBS, FOX or ABC finally wake up and really put an effort into making real championship prize fights(this is Glodenboypromotions dream scenario). Even if I am wrong there is still plenty of fighting taking place on tv and there as we all know is plenty of world class talent as well.

Boxing dead...hmmm it sure isn't the NFL or Nascar in terms of ratings and popularity but it is slowly but surely warming its way back into the fold.

It is our job as cult fans to gather friends and family that love sports in general to give the once proud sport of boxing a fair shot. **** the sports media who think that the only boxing news of relevance is a Mike Tyson fight or a Rid**** Bowe comback or a Hector Camacho drug bust. I have tons of friends who now can't get enough of the sweet science because they have been exposed to fighters like Morales, Tszyu, Lacy, Corrales, Castillo etc...these guys aren't headlining any top stories on ESPN but once a sports fan gets a whiff of these guys they will be hooked, I have seen it happen with many of my friends and family so keep pushing it-in a way all of us who truly love this sport should be like salesman, one fan at a time!

Boxing dead? Lets do our best never to let that be realized!

Scaps idea is a bad idea, inorder to take care of an addiction you have to admit you have one, lets fix boxing and just admit that things need to change for the better, I just went to crapboxing.com and I couldnt even read this article cause I had to be a member!

Maxboxing sucks anyway. Boxing will always be great as long as Ruiz is champ and people don't use juice to try and steal his belt.
