Montiel could unify with Hasegawa in Japan!
By Rafael Soto, soto@notif ight.comInstalled at the legendary Hilton hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, three time world champion, Mexican Fernando "Cochulito" Montiel is focused for his fight this Saturday, but go beyond this commitment: To unify the titles with the Japanese Hosumi Hasegawa , World Boxing Council (WBC) champion as soon as possible.
"Cochulito" Montiel (39-2-2, 29 KOs) will defend his WBO BantamWeight title agaisnt Pinoy Boxer Ciso Morales (14-0, 8 KOs) in the "Pine Power 3" card where also Nonito Donaire faces Gerson Guerrero and Gerry Peņalosa will face the Puerto Rican Eric Morel in the sand at the Hilton in PPE in a Top Rank promotion.
Montiel, 30 years old arrived yesterday in Las Vegas with his father and coach Manuel and his brothers Peter and Edward.
"My primary goal is to defeat Ciso Morales on Saturday and then I want to face Hozumi Hazagawa, unifying our titles would be a big fight," Montiel said in the comfort of his room at the Hilton historic cradle of boxing in this city.
Hasegawa Hosumi of 29 years (28-2, 12 KOs) originally from Kobe, Hyogo, Japan counts 10 world title defenses Gallo CMB and recently knocked out Nicaraguan Alvaro Perez.
"If everything goes well with the Philippine Morales and my specific promoters in mid-April would be fighting in Japan to Hasegawa," said world champion Mosca, and Gallo Supermosca all in the OMB.
But Fernando Montiel said he was not confident at all about his fight with the Filipino Cyssus Morales.
"It became clear to me in the ring and no enemy small intensely prepare me to win this Saturday at the Hilton, we are ready," said Montiel originally from Los Mochis, Sinaloa.
