well, Whitaker is a southpaw. Thats a plus for him.

I think Pea was physically stronger than Mayweather, he had a shorter reach and wasn't as quick though.

Sweet Pea fought both Prime versions of both Oscar & Tito as well as Chavez,at 147 or a catchweight close to that!!Floyd fought Baldomir,Judah & a fat lightweight Marquez at a catchweight he didn't make!!

Sweet Pea was competitive past his prime against a prime Oscar & Tito!!He also should have got the win vs Chavez, but it is what it is!!Baldomir,Judah & Marquez, shouldn't be compared to those 3 mentioned for Sweet Pea!!

Whitaker used his jab more to the head. Mayweather jabs more to the body. Whitaker had a higher workrate. Neither is a big puncher, Whitaker did have some power in that left hand when he loaded up on it, but I think Mayweather hits harder. Mayweather pot shots with one punch at a time more often. He throws that lead right hand more often than Whitaker lead with his left. Both guys knew tricks of the trade (i.e. illegal tactics), but used them in different ways. Mayweather with his forearms and elbows. Whitaker had that thing where he'd grab his opponent's arm or drive his shoulder in his opponent and walk him back, meanwhile sneaking in shots (often low) with his left hand.

Both of them liked to use movement, but I've seen Mayweather more often do this on his toes while Whitaker liked to do this flat-footed. I've seen Mayweather go to the ropes, sometimes intentionally, more than Whitaker.

Mayweather apparently has a better work ethic in the gym than Whitaker.

i also think mayweather does alot less clwoning around in the ring. Whitaker did alot of things that i think rubbed judges the wrong way. Mayweather is all buisness in the ring and other than an occasional smile or sports betting pick hes mostly all buisness.

But you are right, Whitaker is alot more stationary and his workrate is higher because he also threw alot of punches for the sake of touching you and finding range. I also agree mayweather hits a bit harder.

good answer. Whitaker wasnt a stranger to usin his head either. i noticed in the oscar fight in the early rounds Whitaker was unusually aggressive and took alot of forward steps, which floyd rarely does unless hes sure his opponent is about to drop. floyd hit harder i think..

Whitaker often fought bigger fighters in close or at mid-range, where Mayweather stays on the outside more. Mayweather is very good with singular shots, e.g. the straight right hand and jab to the body. His hand speed and unusually long reach allow him to fight that way. Whitaker was much more the master of staying at mid range and fighting behind an active jab. He'd double and triple the jab, slip a punch or two and get closer. When in close he'd block punches with his gloves and arms or dodge them completely. He was very active on the inside too, positioning himself to get off with body punches with both hands.

Mayweather is a great head hunter. Whitaker was a great body puncher. I think May might have a bit more power (consistency) but Whitaker could throw some very damaging body shots. Haugen, Rodriguez, Pineda, Diaz and many others found this out first hand.

i also think mayweather does alot less clwoning around in the ring. Whitaker did alot of things that i think rubbed judges the wrong way. Mayweather is all buisness in the ring and other than an occasional smile or sports betting pick hes mostly all buisness.
Absolutely. Mayweather is all business and pretty much always sticks to his game plan. Whitaker could get complacent at times when he felt he was (seemingly) superior to his opponent. That usually led to him getting caught, like with Roger Mayweather and McGirt when he carelessly squared his feet up to Buddy.

One of Mayweather's best traits is his stick-to-itiveness. He is very mentally strong and doesn't fall apart. Whitaker never fell apart mentally in the sense that he go overwhelmed or anything, he just started to clown about and sold himself short a bit.

Pernell was incredible Defensive fighter like May.

But he also could get caught off balance.

                    I believe he's been down 4 or 5 times.

                    I think twice to Buddy.

Rarely got hit by a combo though.
