Barrera did not train properly for the first pac fight, he only sparred about 40 rounds for the fight, partly because the boxing commission was testing him for a surgery he had years ago, then when they said he could fight, his training camp in big bear was on fire, thus making him lose even more training time, and Morales was weight drained and didn't belong at 130 anymore when he lost to Pac. He asked Pac to make the fight at 135, but they didn't take it, because they wanted EM to drain himself.

Barrera was pretty much in his prime.

Morales was a diminished fighter.

I actually watch all the fights this weekend while I was recovering from getting my wisdom tooth pulled and I agree Chavez was not in his prime however
he only had 1 lose ( should be 3 loses) Taylor,Pernell, Randell before he fought Oscar and before he lost to lost to randell he was rank #1 in the division.

I just thought of the topic just to get the convo started and to see what other boxing heads had to say about this..

anyways i have it on a dvd if i remember correctly i had marco winning by the slightest of margins probably a point but it could have gone either way.

it was a great fight by both guys. they both displayed skill, heart and hunger to get the win.

I dont understand how anyone says Jones killed barrera. I had it a close fight junior jones 115-113 (second fight).

He didnt kill barrera the first fight either...he just had that monsterous round 5 in which he knock down barrera. Then when he had barrera hurt, he rallied but the bell had clearly rang before barrera got knocked down. Barrera's corner ran in and got him DQ.

FWIW I had it 2-2 going into the 5th but Jones was pulling ahead big time. Even at that Junior Jones was a helluva fighter at 118 and 122 so no shame in losing to him.

but when Marco prepared for Manny, the results were the same.. and the training excuses are not aceptable in my opinion.. if those kinds of alibi are acceptable no ones going to win & get the credit he deserves.. Manny train w/ less quality fighters, Manny flew longer trip, Manny is still young then and was'nt at his peak, Manny having butterflies in his stomach.. we could go on & on, but this kinds of alibi are jack****s.. its simply A vs. B, who wins it, period.

pac is just a bad match up for marco. the left jab is not that effective against a southpaw and that was one of marco best weapons at setting and controlling the pace of a fight. marco also does not throw many led right hands but waits to set up his right hand with a jab. a straight right hand is needed against a southpaw

pac foot speed and marco lack there of was the biggest issue of marco ineffectiveness against pac. Erik and Marquez both had success against pac because of there better footwork and better right hands.

i did say marco got spanked in the first fight but he was in the fight just as you said but that ko was monstrous.

MAB was top 3 P4P when pac fought him.. top 3!!!!! Morales was obviously not at his best but was still one of THE BEST fetherweights when pac fought him.. Chavez could have been Oscar's grandpa when they fought..
