Valero really impressed me during this fight. The man is a beast with tremendous heart. He had that huge gash on his head from an elbow in the first round that many fighters would try to get their fights stopped with and kept fighting hard. He didnt let the cut on the eye lid bother him either. He outworked his opponent the whole fight and didnt seem like he was going to slow down. Valero showed a lot more skill in this fight then I thought he had. He will be a tough fight for anyone.

As exciting as Katsidis is with that chin of his he won't last 4 rounds against Valero. Neither would little featherfisted Juan Diaz last long under sustained fire like that. DeMarco was lucky he played it defensive and had huge height and reach advantages plus was a southpaw.

JMM has a good chance because of his excellent counter-punching skills but he is also chinny and easy to hit. At his age and fighting at a non-optimal weight it's possible Valero could spark him if he catches Marquez cold.

I agree. Valero looked tremendous against Demarco, but Demarco helped him by never really standing up to Valero's physicality. He was budged pretty easily and didn't throw much back.

Guys like Funeka, Katsidis, Marquez, Diaz et al are not easily intimidated as young Demarco was. Whatsmore, they'll throw back and throw hard. If Valero can dominate the current lightweight scene his greatness will be apparent. But he's gotta fight these guys and keep knocking them out. Today was another big statement. Hopefully there are more to come.
