How would Calzaghe have done against a young Jones and Hopkins?

Stateside, however, I'd say he's a bit underrated. Fighting (and beating the ****e out of) Jones Jnr was a terrible move PR-wise it seems, there's real animosity towards Joe over there.
How did he let |Jones make it 12 rounds? Jones has been getting KOed by elites for years now, and just got KOed by a not so elite.

He just kind of lost his bite towards the end of his career. Obviously the problems he had with his hands are well documented, but I think he just got comfortable scoring points and winning rounds too. And the Jones fight was almost fought as an exhibition match - he didn't really seem to want to step on the gas.

It was an exhibition match, but there was no excuse for Jones quitting like that.

You call it an exhibition match yet claim an opponent has no excuse for trying/quitting? Here's one: He was shot.

Ali was shot after the Thrilla in Manilla, quitting is more about intangibles than a boxers physical state, maybe even more so.

Shot? No way. Definitely well past his prime? Yes. And he got progressively worse until he became a heavy bag who just sat on the ropes and took punishment. Sound familiar? It should. Jones wasn't shot when he lost to Tarver and Johnson but past his prime. And got progressively worse until...sound familiar now?

Ali had no business in the ring post Frazier III, even he himself was worried about the possible brain damage he recieved in that fight. According to Pacheco he should of quit then instead of carrying on. But what strikes me to this day was the 15th round against Earnie Shavers, his will to win in that fight, after which Pacheco said that he had seen enough and walked.
When did Jones become shot in your opinion?

Hindsight is a funny thing. Regardless, Ali wasn't shot after Frazier III but such a brutal fight took a lot out of him. And opened him up for subsequent beatdowns. Jones, in my opinion, was never the same after coming down from HW. Especially when you consider he took a lot of punishment in that first Tarver fight. That was a clear sign that his prime was well past him. But I first noticed Jones slowing down back in 2002, when he fought Derrick Harmon and Harmon landed 59% of his powershots. Regardless, the Jones who fought Calzaghe was done-zo. The man has always been gunshy. Against Joe, he couldn't even pull the trigger.

                    • Joe Calzaghe beat David Starie who beat Clinton woods, woods beat Glen Johnson. Joe Calzaghe didn't need to fight Glen because he beat Starie
