But I agree with what you guys are saying, he needs to fight the TRilogy!
it could have been but don't you guys think he took A LOT of punishment?
Listen, I love having young prospects have good solid fights early. A loss or two is no big deal, and I've always said, I actually like when a young guy tastes defeat early on. But man, Beibut was getting the **** beat out of him. My main concern is having a guy in fights that early could potentialyl harm their career, rather than help it.
I have the card downloaded from last night, but have yet to watch it.
Judging by the round by round thread last night, it appeared that Shumenov was loading up early and throwing mostly power shots. Many posters said that he appeared tired by the middle rounds.
No one I know has has been able to find a full copy of the first fight, but I believe writers who saw it said that he ran into a similar problem during the first fight.

yes, he looked gassed by the middle rounds. I was very surprised he lasted the full fight. The compubox only tells some of the story, yes he would come out each and every round strong then fade. But when you get a chance to watch it, you'll see Beibut getting tossed around the ring like a rag doll at times. He was eating wicked combination and he could have been dropped several times. To his credit, every time he looked to be in series trouble, he would come back with his intense power shots, but he really wasn't landing flush at all.
He needs some work. He needs to learn how to conserve his energy. He needs serious work on his defense.
I really like this guy, he's very entertaining and he's just different - from his look, to his style, to his intensity, you don't see guys like this too often. But he's very flawed and if it were me, I would want to build him up like any other prospect, rather than rushing to the top.
And same goes for Lara on the undercard. Grady Brewer kind of exposed the fact that he has absolutely no inside game. And Lara basically has the same moves, the jab then follow up with a straight left. He really doesn't have much of an arsenal and I really hope they try to work on some things before sending him off against the big names in the division, like they said they wanted to do.

Well, if that's the case then I guess he should take thing a bit slowly. I know his mandatory is Uzelkov. Though I haven't seen him fight, I can tell you that he stopped Campillo a few years back, for whatever that's worth.
Yeah, Lara is much more conservative with his talents, unlike Gamboa and Rigondeaux. He's sound fundamentally and has good skills but he seems very methodical in his approach. It's a bit 'safety first' IMO, but I'd like to see what he can really do, if that makes sense.
Despite all that, I like him the most of the Cubans...

I sorta thought that too about him until the fight last night. Did you see it yet? It was a great victory, great learning experience, but again I think he was exposed a little bit. Now of course, it's hard to say just based on that fight cuz Brewer is cagey and he's bit awkward, it may have just been the style that made Lara seem less than impressive as he has before, but then again, it could mean that he needs a lot more improvement. Brewer before the cut was winning rounds, it was tied on my scorecard before the cut. Once the cut happened brewer just didn't appear the same. I can see lara having big problems against more well rounded opponents.
He was getting POUNDED tonight. He took massive amount of damage. He will have an extremely short career if he stays in fights like this. At 9 fights total, you don't fight champs for a reason. They guys promoting him are going to destroy his career if they don't slow things down, he has a ton of potential but has a lot to learn.
And yeah, one of the worst decisions I have ever seen. He was getting tossed around like a rag doll it was amazing he didn't go down at least a dozen times in the fight, he showed a lot of heart but that cant last forever.
Lara and some of the other cuban prospects should take notes. Don't rush things too fast.
isn't he managing/promoting himself with his brother?
The "guys" who promote him are him and his brother....
And in his case it was a brilliant decision. They are an upstart promotional company and as a result of Shumenov pushing himself they already have a world champion (albeit undeserved) on their roster and he holds a record for fewest fights to win the LHW title. In the long run it was a great business decision.

I just started watching the card, and the first round ended.
I think you mentioned an important part, it's a learning experience. I think it's good when young fighters have these fights, it can highlight a possible weakness, and give them something to work on before they take that next step to contender status.
Judging from what people have said, Shumenov didn't get that sort of experience.
I will look out for those thing highlighted though. Thanks for the tip.

I have no clue.
I'm pretty sure he is. I think he co-promoted the fight last night.
