Beibut Shumenov is the perfect example as to why you don't rush prospects

He was getting POUNDED tonight. He took massive amount of damage. He will have an extremely short career if he stays in fights like this. At 9 fights total, you don't fight champs for a reason. They guys promoting him are going to destroy his career if they don't slow things down, he has a ton of potential but has a lot to learn.

And yeah, one of the worst decisions I have ever seen. He was getting tossed around like a rag doll it was amazing he didn't go down at least a dozen times in the fight, he showed a lot of heart but that cant last forever.

Lara and some of the other cuban prospects should take notes. Don't rush things too fast.

It's easy to say that now. He has looked like a beast beating up boxers like Montell Griffin, Byron Mitchell, Mendoza...etc. Fans thought it was refreshing to see a prospect who was willing to step up in class fast. Hey, many people have been saying Shumenov was going to rule the LHW division in a short period of time.

shumenov was never that good anyway

and you realise the cubans got about 300 odd amatuer fights before turning pro? not to mention they turn pro right at their physical peak at about 26-28

yeah but Lara for example showed he needs some more work before stepping in the ring with some of the bigger names. Gamboa I think has been brought along perfectly. Rigendeaux they want to get a title shot at 7 fights...All I'm saying is it doesn't hurt to get good solid pro experience

I don't really value a perfect record, so to me it's refreshing to see a guy like Shumenov being brought along so quickly. To me a couple loses on a guy's record can me he's experienced. It can also mean he's just not that good. Time will tell...

I haven't seen either of his fights with Campillo by the way.

Not just 9 fights, but 9 fights against rather lackluster opposition. he wasnt ready and it showed. There are some guys who are ready early, its rare, but some guys can answer the call. Some cant.

But where are those guys at right now? Lineares looked great when he crushed El Chololo, but not only was he far past it, he was long a shadow of his former self. Same with Griffen.
