Watching clips of these fights really make me sad as to how far boxing has fallen in the conscience of the American sports fan. This was the last golden age of boxing where you had big time fighters manning up and facing each other multiple times to not only prove themselves but to provide max entertainment for the boxing fan. I don't think you can say any of the fights between were bad or forgettable between Hagler, Leonard, Hearns, Duran (in their primes) etc in fact mere mention of these fights still spark animated debates. Boxing nowadays has too much politics, belts, and fighters who just don't seem to care about the sport of boxing itself. If they did they would show up in shape, fight the best competition available and gives us entertaining fights.
Just wathed the 1980 bout between Leonard and Duran

totally agree. they fight each other to determine who is the best, regardless if its a win or lose result. And the rematches, equally great.Watching clips of these fights really make me sad as to how far boxing has fallen in the conscience of the American sports fan. The thing that irks me the most is these "old-timers" gave us non stop action 15 round fights now we got 20 something year olds guys taking rounds off and gassing after 6 rounds. The least they can do is show up in shape. For Godks sake their life could be literally on the line every time they step into the ring. I love boxing but a lot if stuff these days just make me throw up my hands and shake my head in disgust.Comment
