I'm getting sick of these no personality fighters.

Yes, I do love Miguel and he never calls anyone out but **** is everyone following his lead? I am sick of fighters not calling out other fighters and striving to test the waters and test themselves. Sick of hearing "we'll wait to see what my promoter does". If the fans want the fight, then call out that guy and stir up some ****, get it poping. Wheres the bad boys in boxing that don't give a *** and will throw down with anyone at anytime? Boxing is becoming more of a business than a fight game, when it used to be more of the fight game and less about the business.

Another one of those "it was better in the old days" threads you see on every forum related to every topic known to man.

It's always been about the business since the turn of the 20th century. Numerous guys intentionally avoided fighters (see the list of guys who avoided Jack Johnson). Of course there are always fighters who will call guys out and there will be ones that won't. Fights didn't happen then over money and fights don't happen now over money. It was like that in 1900 and it's like that now.

I'm guessing some fighters are coached into not saying who their next opponent should be. I can understand that.

I think the new trend will be a fighter's fans calling out his next opponent on live TV.

Every guy just says "I'll wait on my promoter", every flipping guy. Obviously it's a business but at least guys would talk a little smack and get the juices flowing. Now a days fighters all they want to do is give credit to another guy, or when asked about a certain fighter refuse to say what would happen in the fight if they were to square off. Theres no more bulletin material in this sport. All the fighters seem to just want to be nice to each other.

Cotto is throwing it down with anyone anytime though...

But I know what you're saying, even if I don't really prefer the trash talkers. Darchinyan for example ruins it for me with that, it might be entertaining and just for the sake of the fight, but it just bugs me when it's disrespectful to the core and phony and forced and cheap at the same time.

Don't be phony, say what's on your mind but do it with confidence. These guys now a days wish they had the swagger of Toney and RJJ.

Was last nights event the only boxing match you've ever seen? Fighters have always given credit to the guy the are fighting (because it makes them look good. Why would you say the guy you just beat down was a bum?). I've seen fight after fight where guys say certain guys they want to face, and I've seen fights where no one gets called out. It's hit or miss.

I've always thought the guys who are truly mean to the guy they are facing have mental issues anyways. Boxing is a sport not a street fight. If you truly hate your opponent you have issues and if it's all for show it's no different than WWF.

This thread made me remember Tyrone Trice's challenge to James Toney after one of his fights, said he would bet Toney that he would knock Toney out before the 10th round, Toney was sitting ringside. Toney being Toney went into the ring, grabbed the mic and said they could fight right then and there. Trice's people had to take him back to the corner. Good times.

Did you completely miss the boat on my post? I wasn't talking about discrediting a fighter that you are fighting at that very moment. I was talking when you are interviewed after the fight and asked do you want to fight this guy or how do you think the fight between this guy would go, almost all fighters respond with "I'll wait to see what my promoter is going to do" and "that guy is a tough fight and I'm not sure how it would go". These guys are ***ing clones of each other now. No personality and just a mouth piece for Bob Arum, Oscar, or Gary Shaw.

I actually just seen that clip recently. That kind of stuff is what made boxing crazy fun imo. Classic stuff right there man.
