Why would somebody like L. Merchant consider Pacquiao as his No. 1 featherweight?

    He drew on the judges cards. I thought Pacquaio won the fight.

    If not Pacquaio, who SHOULD be #1 featherweight?
    The only other person you can consider at this point is Barrera and as I have pointed out, Pacquaio already beat him.

      There is no doubt, he the #1 Featherweight right now. However, I still think Erik Morales can beat him.

        well i thought marquez won. and dished out a boxing lesson.
        if marco was the man at 126 why werent they fighting for the undisputed titles?
        So marquez is rthe number one featherwieght in my book, been the champ longest most defences beaten the most "names" there.

        also MAB nor morales have beaten the current incumbant Marquez, so a huge argument can be made for marquez being the linear champ as he has been at the top the longest. Aint his fault that mab vacated.

        one win and a loss, oops sorry, draw, do not make you the number one featherweight of all time, nor in the world, nor even in asia.

        Im not fully convinced pacman would beat the monster at feather that is Injin chi.

        he still has a lot to prove.

                manny had no titles to begin with. it was jmm with the titles. all manny has is a a magazines title of peoples champ. jmm and mab actually have belts. manny had his chance at a few belts as a recall but a bad choice in socks cost him the belts.

                  I don't see how the 'magazine's belt' is any less significant than the alphabet title belts JMM has. At least The Ring makes an effort to be unbiased.

                      But Morales isn't at featherweight. He's at super feather. And it would be interesting to see what he does next after his loss to Barrera. Same for Barrera too, what does he do next? Stay at super feather and defend, move up (not likely), or go back to 126?

                      I have Pac and Marquez tied as #1 in the Featherweight rankings, since they didn't quite settle things in their last bout (but it was a F.O.Y. at least). Pac got the slight edge on quite a few of the observers cards as did Marquez, it was close;
                      At least Manny had the drive to keep on the offensive, most fighters going against Marquez are frustrated by his counter-punching up to the point that they resign themselves to a pact of non-aggression. Not so for the flamboyant power-puncher, he took the fight to Marquez until the end, and Marquez did what he had to do by countering his charges. I got my money's worth on that fight (since I bet on a draw)

                      I have respect for both, but I'd need to see the next few months before I change my rankings. Barrera doesn't count here, unless he moves back down, he's #1 at Super Feather (since Morales beat two of the top 130s to gain the WBC and IBF straps, and Morales was decisioned by MAB).
