Hmm lets see vargas went 11 or 12 rounds toe to toe against a baseball bat and lived to tell the story. Hmmm yea i would say he deserves to be in the hall of fame and in the top ten all time greats of boxing.

What the hell you been smokin, Vargas aint no all time great, he isn't even hall of fame material, he was good in his prime, but who did he beat in his prime. Knocked out by Trinindad and De La Hoya in his prime, couldn't beat the best. And got a gift decision against Wright in his prime also.

But it's only cheating if you get caught. Personally, I think Vargas' and Reid's people dropped the ball. Naazim did a brilliant job in spotting what [Felix Trinidad Sr.] was doing with the wraps." Don Felix was also putting tape on the skin and over the knuckles, both of which are not in accordance with NYSAC rules. New York's head commissioner put his foot down and made Don Felix wrap in strict accordance to the rules.
Don Felix has insisted in several interviews that, "I have always wrapped Tito's hands this way and nobody else has ever said anything."
That’s like saying, I beat my wife all the time and I've never got in trouble for it before. Now, all the sudden you guys want to make a big deal out this. That's just not right, I'm a respectable man.
I didn't know that a guy could talk so much nonsense in one letter. What you're saying has absolutely NO TRUTH to it. How come Nazeem was the guy who "discovered " everything?? How come that nobody either before or since, ever made any complaint about Trinidad's hand wraps?? HOW COME THAT NO ACTION AT ALL WAS TAKEN BY THE COMMISSION WHERE FOR A "SIMILIAR OFFENCE" poor Margarito was banned for a year??

        HOW COME HOW COME??????????????

The facts of the matter ARE, that NOBODY except Hopkins {who wasn't there} has ever made any complaint about the handwraps, which, knowing Hopkins, the truth is sure to be the opposite of whatever he mouths off........ At very best, he has an "axe" to grind.....

One minute someone is telling us how to make the fists like stone, with alternate tape and gauze, OH YES, and don't forget the most important part, the soaking in ice water.

Naturally all this elaborate preparation can be done in a mere minute of two, in front of the Comm8ssion inspector {What's THAT???} so that when Trinidad's fist is felt BEFORE the glove is even on, has become like cement {all in one easy lesson} NOBODY notices that the bandages are sopping wet.......I wonder HOW COME??????? Even the Commission guy???HMMmm.

Maybe because it never happened... Let me tell you exactly how the wrappings were done.

When Papa T wrapped the majority of the gauze around the fist, he made sure that it projected at least an inch beyond the knuckles. THEN... he folded that projection back on the knuckles giving the knuckles a double padding.

This, {for the ignorant} is to protect the hands, which is the main reason for the wrapping.

Many fighters don't actually punch as hard as they can, because their fists are the tools with which they earn their living, and too many damaged hands could cause the fighter's career to come to a halt. This has happened with many.

Fishmouth Mayweather needs Xylocain injections before he fights so that he can abuse his brittle hands {only legal in Nevada of course} but I don't see anybody attacking him over it, only Trinidad, who actually is blameless.

It's much more enjoyable -for some= to try to tear down a man's reputation, especially when he can hide behind a user name.......

I've got another name for them.........!!!

Yo Tec, what were you doing in 1985? Were you even born yet?

I'll tell you what Camacho was doing in 1985, capturing the NABF & the WBC Lightweight Titles, defeating both Louie Burke and, one of Mexico's Greatest Lightweights and Gentlemen, Legendary Jose Luis Ramirez.

THAT'S WHAT CAMACHO WAS DOING IN 1985.....

Hall of Famer without a Doubt...

EdGarg; I agree with you wholeheartedly. Bringing in an addiction, which in fact, The Champ - The Legend (Macho Camacho) HAD, has no baring in what is occuring in his Life today. Indeed, Macho was over his prime when faced with these opponents. Let's not forget the '92 showdown against Chavez. Despite 12 gruelling rounds, Macho withstood Chavez' attacks. A Boxing Great Indeed! There will be alittle more yet of THE MACHO MAN. 2010, will be a year of 'Statements' made by veteran boxers in the ring...

I recall when Camacho burst on the scene, he was brilliant, with possibly the fastest hands I'd ever seen. In fact, even though he's close to 50 I'm not sure that he has ever been knocked down, I know he's never been stopped, and has fought all the top boxers of his era, even though no longer in his prime.

When he fought Trinidad and Oscar, they were at their excellent best, whilst he was long past his. His record speaks for itself, and he seems a certain pick for the Hall of Fame, when eligible.

Vargas was very much in the wrong to throw his drug addiction at him, not the mark of a decent person, but coarse and ill mannered.

You've never even seen his fight with Winky Wright.

Vargas gave a vicious beating to a prime Yori boy Campas,a prime Raul Marquez and beat Ike Quartey a hell of alot more convincingly than Oscar De La Hoya ever did.

Vargas was washed up when De La Hoya eventually grew a pair.Trinidad was far more experienced than Vargas and yet he struggled greatly against this kid and essentialy ruined Vargas as a fighter.

Vargas's resume after twenty fights reads as : Ike Quartey,Winky Wright,Raul Marquez and yori boy Campas.

That's a greater resume than any other prospect you will find after just 20 fights.
