I quite agree, Camacho is a much more polished and successful boxer than Vargas. I recall when Camacho burst on the scene, he was brilliant, with possibly the fastest hands I'd ever seen. In fact, even though he's close to 50 I'm not sure that he has ever been knocked down, I know he's never been stopped, and has fought all the top boxers of his era, even though no longer in his prime.

When he fought Trinidad and Oscar, they were at their excellent best, whilst he was long past his. His record speaks for itself, and he seems a certain pick for the Hall of Fame, when eligible.

Vargas was very much in the wrong to throw his drug addiction at him, not the mark of a decent person, but coarse and ill mannered.

Vargas is also about twice Camacho's size, he'sHector is just as big as MannyP at most and msde his name as a Super Featherweight then lightweight, was over=the=hill before "outgrew" that division, and has fought the best of the best,.....AND...without anything close to a KO punch !!

AND,speaking of that, he KO'd Sugar Ray Leonard, putting a complete end to his career, and his variety of "comebacks" for which I will always feel grateful.

Macho in his prime would of KO'd Vargas much the same way he KO'd Limon. And i wouldn't be surprised if Hector beat Vargas today. Camacho stays in the gym, you've never seen him grossly out of shape or having an injury. The same can't be said about Vargas!!!!

hopkins exposed those illegal handwraps. oh and also vargas had hit trinidad with an upper cut knocked him down and was pounding on trinidad then trinidad hit him with a low blow cheater again. how long was trinidad using those ILLEGAL HANDWRAPS HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
I'm surprised that you have written as many as 54 letters, because from this last one, nobody would ever guess thyat you knew anything at all about boxing.

Trinidad's wrappings were perfectly legal, nothing wrong with them. Hopkins didn;t :expose: them, Trinidad had ONE FIST WRAPPED when Hopkin's guy turned up...late. He kicked up a fuss, to get the edge, and made Papa T unwrap and rewrap, even though the Commission guy was there. Hopkins already had a HUGE edge, because the fight was postponed for several weeks due to 9/11. Trinidad chose to stay in New York, helping with the rescue work, whilst Hopkins went back to his training camp.

As far as I'M concerned, and I'm sure many other decent people, Trinidad won the fight right there....................

Papa gave a 15 minute lesson on TV about handwraps, showing exactly how he wrapped a boxer's fist. THEY WERE PERFECTLY LEGAL, and unexceptional.

You're welcome. There are far too many ignorant posters, who really know nothing about the subject matter.

Hector will go down as one of the most highly skilled boxers in Puerto Rico's history, which is studded with top class fighters.

THE TRUTH HURTS!!!Why was this left hand wrapping so important to the Trinidads?
Finally, after the head commissioner became involved the Trinidads were told to either rewrap the left hand or the fight was off. After much argument, they finally agreed to rewrap the hand with a member from the Hopkins team present.
Tito was made to remove his glove and the prior wrapping in front of Hopkins representative Naazim Richardson who noticed that the wrap looked very thick and when he felt it he says it was as hard as a rock. All the sudden it became very clear why they had tried to get away with wrapping the left hand without anyone from the Hopkins camp watching and also why they didn't want to remove it and rewrap the hand.
Don Felix began to rewrap the hand again, but Richardson noticed that Don Felix was putting layers of tape and then gauze, tape and then gauze, tape and then gauze which is not in accordance with NYSAC rules. The rules stipulate tape cannot be applied directly over the knuckles, and that repeating the process several times (is not permitted).

In an interview with Bernard Fernandez of Philly.com, Hopkins said, "If you put on tape, then gauze, then tape, then gauze, it's like a [plaster] cast. It's like being hit with a baseball bat. I'm giving out some secrets here, but you can dip your hands in ice water and that tape will, like, marinate and become harder. But it's only cheating if you get caught. Personally, I think Vargas' and Reid's people dropped the ball. Naazim did a brilliant job in spotting what [Felix Trinidad Sr.] was doing with the wraps." Don Felix was also putting tape on the skin and over the knuckles, both of which are not in accordance with NYSAC rules. New York's head commissioner put his foot down and made Don Felix wrap in strict accordance to the rules.
Don Felix has insisted in several interviews that, "I have always wrapped Tito's hands this way and nobody else has ever said anything."
That’s like saying, I beat my wife all the time and I've never got in trouble for it before. Now, all the sudden you guys want to make a big deal out this. That's just not right, I'm a respectable man.
