After that he'll probably end up doing a farewell fight in PR or NYC against a weaker contender to defend his title should he win it, and call it a career filled with big wins, sore losses, highlight reel action, and tears of joy and sorrow.
I've heard that too but I guess I didn't want to believe it. I just think Miquel Cotto's a fun fighter to watch and I'd love to see him stick around for a couple more years. However, I don't want to see him lose again and especially not a KO loss. I thought Yuri Foreman looked good against the hard punching Santos and I don't know how Cotto will respond to moving up a weight class. Let's compromise then; he fights a tuneup at 154 and then faces Foreman...

I think he should fight either Foreman, Berto or have a Margarito rematch.

Yeah, he has stated that he has 1, maybe 2 more fights in him before he retires. So while this plan that the TS stated would be good, it is most likely not going to be the case.

If Cotto wants to fight in JUne,Id say the best opponent is Yuri Foreman. Foreman is a decent boxer with lack of power. This is an ideal fight for cotto, going for a 3rd title at 3 weights. Im sure that cotto would beat foreman by KO. After that, it depends on how the 147lbs division is looking. Berto, Mosley rematch, magarito rematch.

I would have him fight Foreman then Chavez Jr. since he wants to step his fight game up. Win both then retire. since hes only gonna fight one or two fights. Thats the best way to see him off imo.

I think Cotto would've beaten any ww other than Pac on the nov 14. He showed he still has good reflexes, good physical condition/stamina, good footwork, and solid boxing overall, the only thing lacking was the power he once had. And thats the reason I dont like him in 154. He could fight Foreman in June if he wants a third title, but for his last shot at glory I would prefer him against Berto in June for the WBC title. Then, assuming both Pac and Floyd wins their next fights, have a rematch either Mosley or Clottey, the one that performed better. For his final fight it would be nice to see him up against Floyd, but since that will never happen, a rematch against Margarito (if he positions himself as a top level fighter again) in Puerto Rico and then retire.

He looked, and acted, human against Margarito; he just barely beat Josh Clottey and was destroyed by Manny Pacquaio. So what should he do now in his career? Here's what I think:

He should 'step down' the level of competition for a year or so. He needs to get back some of his confidence and swagger by beating up on some lower level comp like the Mike Jennings and Alfonzo Gomezs of the boxing world. If he continue to fight at this high level I fear that he could end up like Jermaine Taylor. JT never really 'stepped down' the level of competion in his career and really seemed to burn himself out..

So I think he should stay busy in 2010, fighting 3-4 times, and then in 2011 step back up to the championship level. Why not? What do you guys think?
I agree except the Jermaine Taylor thing..

The plan against Foreman is not a bad thing,
but I feel that fight could wait.. Top Rank should
set him up against guys ranked in 10-20 light
middle 2-3 figths before the Foreman fight..

anyways, I feel Cotto will beat Foreman.

I think that Cotto is planning on having 2/3 more fights then he will retire. I think that Foreman would be the perfect opponent for his return in June. After he beats foreman, maybe he will be targeting a welterweight, depending on how the fights such as pacquia-clottey and mayweather-mosley go on.

I think you're right. He should take a gimme, then aim for Foreman, then take another gimme back down at 147lbs (he seems to be able to make weight comfortably) and aim for Berto, and then see where he stands.

That would be ideal in my opinion.
