    Can Pac/Clottey beat Dempsey/Tunney Attendance?

    September 23, 1926
    Sesquicentennial Stadium
    Gene Tunney
    vs.
    Jack Dempsey I
    Attendance: 120,757

    March 13, 2010
    Dallas Stadium
    Manny Pacquiao
    vs.
    Joshua Clottey
    Attendance: 60,000

    September 22, 1936
    Municipal Stadium
    Joe Louis
    vs.
    Al Ettore
    Attendance: 40,407

    September 23, 1952
    Municipal Stadium
    Rocky Marciano
    vs.

As a major Mayweather fan, I have to admit that this absolutely sucks! Dammit!

    No.

Boxing isn't as big as it was back in the day.

Nothing will ever touch Dempsey/Tunney attendance.

Isn't Cowboy Stadium going to be configured to seat 40,000 for the fight?

That's gonna be hard to beat unless it's a Pac Floyd superfight.

Boxing is no longer mainstream today, being limited to PPV, pay cable and internet. The everyday Joe who doesn't subscribe wouldn't know the latest about boxing. It's not even in the nightly news.

Back in the days, everyone watched all the major fights, particularly the heavyweight fights and Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Robinson, Ali, Leonard et al... they were all household names.

dont discount the fact that jerry jones is also promoting this fight in his own backyard. he guranteed that this fight will be a memorable one. it may even exceed 60,000 on fight night. they are even calling this fight the superbowl of boxing. consider also the prices of tickets, $50the lowest with the jerry-tv. people will watch this fight like they will be watching national football, jerry jones will make sure of that. dallas cowboys fans can easily fill up the 40,000 seats.

No chance you can get anywhere near to 100,000+ for any boxing match nowadays, it's just not big enough.

a 2007 version of a 130 pounder Pacquiao who fought an unknown Jorge Solis was enough to draw 15,000 fans and Has 2nd-Best Box Office Opening in San Antonio Texas. A lot of Mexicans were in attendance and supported Pacquiao.

The version of Pacquiao now would easily sell more than 40k.

I believe Chavez-Haugen broke the attendance record in Mexico with something like 130,000, but In not sure tghe exact number.
