Further, I have a pretty reliable source that tells me that Clottey gets $4 of every PPV buy. How many buys do you think it does?
I wont argue with fighting the best as he should but he is basically in a lose - lose situation. Sure, he'll get some air time because of Pacman but only 1mill guaranteed is a slap in the face even for a relative unknown such as Clottey.

As for the number of PPV buys, i dunno but I'm guessing it'll be around the 1million mark if they're lucky.

As for your source...who knows, who cares. 1million guaranteed is still a slap in the face.

My source is solid gold man. But, I think you are probably high on the buys. But given your number that would drive Clottey's money up to 5 million. Pretty good pay day. I think it will do more like 700,000 which would give Clottey 3.8 million. He would keep 60% of that after taxes. He pays the manager vinny 30% and the trainer 10%.

David Diaz got 1 Million from fighting PAC and that was before ODLH, I thought Clottey would have gotten at least 2M...
Actually, Diaz originally was only getting $800k, but after or before the fight, Manny promised to give him an extra $200k. BTW, Cotto is a bigger name than Clottey and he was the defending champion.

1 mil is a lot of money... specially if you are from ghana

best money fight clottey has probably ever got was the fight with cotto and i doubt he got mkore than a mil there

not bad money + an oppurtunity + exposure etc... not a bad deal a ta ll

trust me, there are plenty of guys out there willing to fight pac for 1mil or even free

this writer claims this fight will be considered a success with 500K ppv.

"I think it's a shaky pay-per-view, I've thought that all along," Mayo said. "Clottey is not a real well-known guy. Granted, he's very talented. I'm not knocking the quality of the fight. You're not going to make it off a Filipino or an African audience. You have to sell to the U.S. public. I don't think they'll buy it. If the fight did 500,000, 550,000 on pay-per-view, I think that'd be an overwhelming success."

I still think it will easily do 500K, and could reach the 700K. 1M? It will take a lot of marketing by all concerned: top rank, hbo, and dallas. But it can be done. Especially if they have a good undercard. Margarito?

If clottey gets $4, assuming the ppv is $50, and hbo and top rank gets half, leaving 25 dollars to be shared by pacquiao and clottey, then its an 85%-15%, or at best 80%-20% split?

500k buys? Ouch. That would be a failure if you ask me. However, after the fight of the century was called off, i probably wouldn't be too surprised.

Yeah, 1mill PPVs was being generous, hence i said if they're lucky. Agree though, 700,000 seems about right.
