Of course, if Mosley is fighting Mayweather in March, no one wants to see him get injured or cut and have to pull out. However there are several decent enough boxers out there that would put in a good effort but get knocked out in about 5 rounds. Someone like Soto Karass or Ricardo Torres would be good. Or even someone below that level would still be interesting for the following reasons:
1. Because some boxing is better than no boxing at all. Better we get a less-than-great fight than an evening without boxing.
2. I'm really interested in the Mack-Johnson undercards fight. Remember when Pavlik got injured, so it meant that Clottey-Quintana was cancelled along with the main event? It would be a real shame if that happened again and we never got to see the fight.
3. Because it means that Shane can get rid of any ring rust he may have.
4. Because it means that (if Shane loses) we won't get 1000 threads debating about whether not his lack of activity was to blame.
5. Because, IMO, the best advertisement for a fight is an impressive performance. If Shane looks good against a B-level opponent, it will do a good job of hyping people up for his fight with Mayweather. I would rather see a world class boxer have a warm up bout than watch them on 24/7 hanging around with their friends or whatever.
