Stats that blow you away about little Manny......!

    Stats:

    Pac
67.8 (45.4 power punches) punches throw per round and connects about 43% of them...

His opponents in the last 3 fights meanwhile...
His opponent throws 49 (23 power punches) punches a round while connecting 25% of them....

    In-****ing-credible...

he's wild but he doesnt get hit that much unless he willingly lets peeps hit him. Cotto would have damn near missed everything after the first round had Pacquiao not let him wail away.

I don't think anyone would accuse Manny of having a good defense, but he does such a dynamic offense, you can see why his opponents don't land much against him.

A good offense is the best defense. Yup.

His no JMM though. His defense turns to instant offense.

PAC did ok with Barerra but the took alot of shots against Marquez and Morales. Still I find it amazing that Pacquiao moved up in weight and went straight for Barerra, Marquez, and Morales. I don't ever remember a fighter taking on the top three guys in a division one after another.

What do you expect against Hatton, Cotto and Oscar? All are very easy to hit (Oscar used to be ok defensively but at the age of 36, being only a part time fighter and shot he's not anymore) and have serious defensive liabilities.

Oscar was old and dead therefore wouldn't throw as many punches as usual. Cotto is too easy to hit and would have that % against most of his opponents. Even Marg, who is terrible in terms of accuracy landed a high % against Cotto as have all his other opponents.

Hatton also has serious liabilities and a terrible record %-wise in terms of being hit.

These stats mean nothing unless taken in context, which are perfectly normal in reality when you look at the opponents and style of fighting in each fight. His punch numbers are only a bit above average for punches thrown per round for JWW and WW and while 43% connect rate is good, it was against three fighters that have serious issues with regards to defense so it makes perfect sense. If he had anything less than that it would be concerning for the best P4P fighter in the sport.

These type of stats are so misleading as to be absurd. Are you going to throw as many punches against a counter puncher as you would against a guy that walks straight in at you? Of course not. Pac has not fought a counter puncher in his last three fights. All were straight ahead, walk in fighters. % also depends what type of fighter you are. Margarito for example would have a very low connect % because he is about quantity and pressure not accuracy and counter punching.

Take this stat for example. In compubox's history only one fighter has ever landed more than 400 punches in a championship more than once. That was James Toney who has done that four times. That would be about a 60% connect rate in a championship fight. Now that's insane. Even 60% against defensive hacks is impressive.

Those stats are great but they don't really mean a lot when you look at the fighters.
