Toney vs Tyson

I hastily clicked "too close to call" but this is a much better question that it first appears. And I wonder why, as some have suggested, people don't try more body shots with Toney? How much could that belly of his have taken on Saturday? Even if his ***** **** took a solid shot it would give him bra strain.
But I really wouldn't like to see Toney up against Tyson or Byrd in the foreseeable future. His reign is still so fresh, so transitory. I'd like to see him with some people he could beat (not pushovers, just that Toney could beat pretty much everybody) before he starts taking difficult fights.

I'm just thinking of [and yes, I know I do seem to have a Danny Williams obsession of late, and there's no way I'm saying Danny is even a fraction as skillful as Toney, but bear with me for the analogy...] Danny Williams's heavyweight campaign.
Makes a splash by TKOing a shot Tyson and gets a name. Promptly loses it by getting smashed up by the best guy in the division. Now, obviously I know Toney already has an established rep, albeit at lower weights, and wouldn't get that tarnished. But imagine if Danny had fought a Brewster or a Ruiz before Klitschko. There's a very, very good chance he would have been victorious and people would have been talking about him seriously in the mix instead of making polls with Kali Meehan's name in them.
Toney's beat three inferior heavyweights (and yes, sadly at this stage, Holy is inferior)... if he gets beat by a top name people will just say "Well, he was never a real heavyweight anyway..."
The Anorak rambles!

I hope this doesn`t hurt your feelings Anorak but i think Danny Williams is made for Toney. Big body to hit and average speed, Toney would win more convincingly than Klitscko did, just based on styles! Williams however may have a shot against Brewster ( average ) or Golota ( unpredictable ).

Oh yeah, Kimmy, but let's make one thing clear - I was just comparing Williams's situation with getting to the top in the division and failing as an analogy for Toney's path there - I wasn't saying they should fight, yeah?
But now you've brought it up, I agree with you. Danny would be the harder hitter, but that's about it. I'd like to see it, but Danny's too flakey in the head. Plus, it'd never happen.

Originally posted by paul750there's no way toney would beat willliams more convincingly than klitchko, VK is by far the best heavyweight out there, he certainly wouldn't be able to knock williams out, i think it would be a decent fight in which williams has a good/decent chance of winning
Klit stopped Williams from a distance behind a stiff jab and the right hand. Toney would have to fight an inside games, hammer Williams to the body. This i feel for sure will weaken Williams more so than when Klit hit him on the head. Despite his one sided beating Williams was able to block some of Klits work upstairs in their fight. Toney i feel will be able to land cleanly at will on that big torso of Williams then take it up stairs past the 5th round ( much like he did with Ruiz ). The difference here though although Ruiz was probably at his most competitive ever in the Toney fight he didn`t press forward in the later stages. I believe Williams comes forward too much, especially against a smaller guy. This i believe will be his undoing and he`ll be worn down then stopped with counter rights!

The way you talk about it is as if Toney has amazing power. Toney has decent power, not enough to KO Williams who has shown he has a huge heart.
