My boy is 19 months old, he can barely speak yet asks me to watch boxing all the time, he throws the 1-2 well and always adds a dodgey sound effect with it! Its not really funny but he's already been in trouble at nursery for hitting other kids, gonna have to calm him down! He laughs his ass off when someone gets dropped i had to rewind the first count Ortiz took against Maidana like 30x for him lol!
Im very tempted to push him hard and early but ive got some serious questions to ask myself first.
I wouldn't let my girl be a boxer, cause she's too pretty - but if i have a boy or an ugly girl later they can be boxers
Funniest thing I've heard all day.
As a former athlete, I'll stress the importance and the benefits of sports, sportsmanship and athleticism to my son from an early age. Were he to choose boxing, I'd be the proudest dad in the world.
My son is 10. He's been boxing on and off since he was 7. Many children want to get involved in sports which their Dads' enjoy. I've never forced him to go, it's always been optional and he loves it. I coach at our gym and it's particularly rewarding watching him progress. He's wanting to fight as soon as he's old enough (11 in the UK) ... Really looking forward to seeing how he does.
I'd intrduce my son to boxing naturally. By watching fights, etc etc.. but i'm pretty sure that if they're exposed at an early age to anything, they're either gonna love it or hate it. And parents should be able to know when to push and when to back off. But yes, if my son had an undying passion for boxing i'd do everything to support him.
Just like every young man should do one tour of duty in the Military, for the "Discipline" and "Honor", a young boy should lace em and go at it in the Ring. I got rocked many a times in the Pitt Street Boys Club ring, on the 2nd floor, as a kid. (thanks "George" and "Jagee" where ever you guys are!) It was those times, bloody nose and all, that enabled me to "take-a-hit" out in the street.
My got my Danny Boy a mini punching bag in 2003, he'd prefer head-butting it, but it was a joy seeing him go at it!!
I wouldnt encourage him to turn pro, but hes definitely going amateurs. Even if he sucks I want him in they gym for the discipline. My daughter is 4 and she's in Karate right now.
It certainly does more good then bad. Everyday i see little kids who act like *******, they cry and fight like sissys. If a kid takes up boxing they learn the value of discipline, will power, hard work, not to cry like a women when you get beat up. They learn to fight back and not give up. I rather have my kid in the boxing ring taking a beating then behind the computer screen looking like some fat ******.
Look at all grown men acting like women, boxing for just a year or so when they where kids would have made them a lot good. Boxing helps to turn boys into men.
