Cotto-The most protected fighter in boxing history

I would not care if he never fought for an alphabet title, vacant title or whatever.
He fought the best competition available in both divisions he was in. That is as good as it gets.
Alphabet titles are garbage and mean jack ****. It is who you fight that matters. That is how you get measured.
Way back a title meant something. Now they are so watered down you have at least one jokester in each division grasping that fake ass title and claiming they are champion, all the while never fighting a true top 10 fighter in their division.Comment

I agree about 147, but i dont agree with 140. when hatton, mayweather, harris, etc were champs, he didint fight any of them. Im not blaming him for that because he was up and coming, but i dont agree that he fought the best in that division. He fought some good credible fighters, but i wouldnt say the best.Comment

my sentiments exactly
judah, malignaggi, quintana, margarito, pacquiao, mosley, clottey
his resume reads like who's who of the division **** the only names he didn't fight were Hatton and Floyd
and considering he only lost twice despite being in there with some of the best welter's out there says alot about Cotto
he was never the same after the Margarito fight physically and mentally
he was a good fighter in a great divisionComment

What a sham Arum has put on with Cotto. Cotto owns Arum his kids! It amazes me that cotto still is YET TO BEAT A CHAMPION!! The only time he's EVER won a championship is when it was vacant and against some nobody. He got ko'd and showed no heart against margarito and he got ko'd and showed no heart against pacman. He wanted out of the ring against margarito and even more against pacman. Now he's going to fight yuri foreman at 154!! what a joke. This guy is the most protected fighter in the sport. If Cotto wasnt with Arum who is as good as it gets making fighters cotto would be just another fighter.Comment

You sound like HORUS my man with the vacant title crap. In boxing these days titles don't mean much. I am one who thinks the lineal title should be at stake in order for you to be called Champion but, there are numerous belt holders spread out of what 17 weight classes? To me if you look at his resume at 147lbs and the time frame in which he fought those fighters to call him protected is crazy. Arum is very smart in choosing the fights for his fighters. Cotto vs Foreman makes perfect sense especially in NYC on teh PR day EVE. Foreman is from NYC and has some sort of follwoing there. Cotto will pack MSG it will be a great fight for BOXING. Foreman is not going to be a push over and Cotto should be able to do what he does best COME FORWARD. It all depends on how his mind state is after losing his dad. I lost my dad and it inspired me to do things I have been putting off and accomplish more in the past three months then I have in the past three years.
Cotto's Resume at 147lbs
2/12/06 - Carlos Quintana 23-0 since 4-2 loss to Williams and Cotto
3/3/07 - Oktay Urkal 38-3 since retired loss to V. Harris (2) Cotto & Tszyu
6/9/07 - Zab Judah 34-4 (Former Udis WW Champ) since 4-2 loss to Mayweather, Cotto, Clottey, Baldomir, Spinks & Tszyu
11/10/07 - Shane Mosley 44-4 (Former P4P #1) since 2-1 loss to Forrest (2) , Wright (2) & Cotto
4/12/08 - Alfonso Gomez - 18-3-2 (Busy Fight) since 3-1 loss to Cotto, Manfredo Jr, Feliciano, Ishe Smith
7/26/08 - Antonio Margarito 36-5 (Former WW Champion) since 0-1 Loss to Mosley, P Williams, D Santos, R Jones, V Lozoya
2/21/09 - Michael Jennings 34-1 (Busy fight) since 2-0 loss to Cotto, & Young Mutley
6/13/09 - Joshua Clottey 35-2 ( Former Belt Holder) since no fights loss Cotto, Margarito and Bladomir (DQ)
11/14/09 - Manny Pacquiao 49-3 (P4P #1) since no fights loss to Erik Morales, Medgoen Singsurat & Rustico Torrecampo
NOW TELL ME HE IS PROTECTED!!!Last edited by LEFTYGUNZZ; 01-14-2010, 10:23 AM.Comment
